Yes - though this function can be disabled.

The best advice you can get is to remove Norton completely. It is more of a hassle than a help. Free AntiVirus programs are more functional, update more often, obviously cost less, and are much less intrusive than Norton.

Though, if you insist on paying for protection, I would have to recommend you get Kapersky or BitDefender. Well worth the price, and no 'renewal costs'. The software is yours once you purchase, and all updates (multiple times daily) are free. And the amount of protection is phenominal.

Usually the very same Norton will let you know about this; still in winXp you will find that when your antivirus is disabled or missing the last updates... you'll have a popup message in the icon tray telling you about it.

Both of them are configurable.. so fur sure you can enable/disable them

You should get an email sent to the email address you gave when purchasing or registering. My computer also did let me know when it was getting close to the date. Maybe call the help line and ask the question to be totally sure.

I'm sure Norton will not let you forget. They will hound you for money.

Personally, I would advise you to ditch it. There are cheaper options, even free ones, that will do the same job.
