According to the bible and thus of it's contex there were a lot of giants in those days. They were they offspring of the sons of God who saw that the daughters of men were beautiful and mated with them and those daughters of men. Hence thought most of the giants were wiped out it appears that Noah had some giant genes in him. As all are supposed to be decended from Noah this must be so. Unless there was a liniage that wasn't mentioned in the bible.

However the whole thing is a load of gobbly goo. For a start there is some evidence of either some flood or some water inudation at sometime in the dark distant past. There is a certain layer of silt. However when you look at the bible you find a very amazing thing. Especially if you graft in onto history. You see, I once did that chronology of years of the generations of biblical patriachs that a certain archbishop Usher did in the 17th century to put the date of the creation of the world (dating back from those people to Adam) at 9:00 am in the morning of the 31st October 4004 B.C. There was something very interesting I discovered. That the time of Noah in the chronology was the 22nd century B.C. Now this just so happened to be when the Akkadian Empire under Sargon of Akkad swept down and conquered southern Mesopotamia. Of course the flood didn't happen then because there would have been no Akkadian Empire and Sargon would have disappeared along with the rest. In fact the empire fell about 100 years later and all was accounted for. But the interesting thing was of a great upheaval in the region smack bang on the time of the so called flood. It appears that the "flood" was most likely the invasion of the Akkadians.

And of cause we know that no such event took place unless we are talking about a time long before civilization. The reason why there are giants today is that it is simply a genetic trait from certain ancestors. Nothing miraculous, nothing magical-just plain old scientific fact. I note a certain sceptasism in your question. And you are right in being sceptical and questioning. The plain fact is that besides that time so long ago you can put the flood and also you can put the facts attatched to the story in the basket of mythology. Stories to awe and scare children. As in the words of Marcus Aurelius in his book "Meditations"(To Himself) he says:
" Socrate's name for the beliefs of the man in the street. Boogies to scare children". Hope this helps.
