I think it gets forgotten. At least that is what happens with me. However in cases of people I really care about it might resurface as those feelings are suppressed.

Emotional pain only heals if it's acknowledged and dealt with. Suppression of emotional pain means it's still there and having an impact in a person's every day life, only to emerge at a later date.

I think the pain never heals nor goes away. With time, it just grows deep into your heart where it stays forever until you began to remember those feelings and they resurface, then you have to remember how you put those feelings away. My dad past away 4 years ago, people said that with time the pain would heal. HA, that's a joke, for me the pain is still there, but just buried under what I try to make myself believe is gone. Does that make sense? I suggest moving on, put it behind you, get a new hobby so that you want have to think about these feelings.

Not to be totally negative, but I believe that no emotional pain is ever completely healed. Covered up? Sure. I still deal with issues from the past as though they were new. Its like a new coat of paint. You can make it seem better, but underneath its the same old thing.

It can heal. It all has to do with your choice to heal or not. Most people choose to supress because that is what is taught in our society. Most people will push it down and try not to look at it. However, repressed emotions will always cause physical symptoms because the feelings do manifest into physical form if not released. (think heart dis-ease, Cancer, Diabetes). We are not taught about this link between repressed emotions and dis-ease, but it is very real and operates in every single person .
Read Louise Hay's books about the mind- body link. A good one to start with is "You Can Heal Your Life"). She's been writing for about 20 years now. Make sure you read about her own personal journey. If she can heal, anyone can!
Good luck and blessings to you.

I think it gets suppressed, because you can never really forget! I had a friend get hit by a car going 70 mph. She was on foot trying to catch the bus. I never forgot and that was seven years ago, I never forget and I always remember the day my friend died. She was hit by a school teacher that was running late for school(WORK) I still cry to this day about it, It never goes away. Just think if your mother was to die, Would your pain heal?, or would you think about it forever. YOU WOULD THINK ABOUT IT FOREVER. Or at least I would.

I think it heals somewhat, but also gets suppressed until core issues are fully dealt with. Or else become a country singer and write a drinkin' song about it.

I know that when you're in pain, it feels like you'll never stop hurting. If I'm hurting and some one hands me some line about time healing, I want to scream.
I must say though, time hasn't failed to nurse any broken heart I've ever had.

Sometimes it heals and sometime it never will, sometimes it gets suppressed and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes a person can experience such emotional pain they never get past it.
