Laptops and desktop computer are pretty much alike. So you should be able to run almost any software in each one.

One problem with laptops is that manufactures uses to put special configuration in them in order to make their lives easy.

Once you set your partition don't try to recover the laptop with the manufacturer provider CD-DVDs; those recover utilities always set their partition as it was at the delivery of the product.

Go ahead if you can trust the software. I remember using Partition magic many times and once I used it and I lost everything on my computer. If you are starting from a fresh format it is a breeze. If you are using third party software to partition and hope to save everything already on there you can be taking a chance on losing everything because of it. Do it at your own risk if you already have stuff on your hard drive. Backup everything if you are doing a partition after having everything programmed already.

You can use Windows boot disk for partitioning your drive but it will erase all your data. If you don't want to lose your data I recommend you to use Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0. It can resize, move, copy, split, and merge partitions without losing your data and it has a friendly interface so you won't have any trouble using it. Visit a Disk Director site for more info:

Don't see why you couldn't. Generally speaking, laptop and desktop harddrives are the same. They operate on the same principle. It some software utility works on your desktop, 99.9% of the time, it will work on your laptop as well.
