I do not watch TV and seldom ever see a movie at any place. I would like to know a few very good movies but not the violent ones. Enough violence here for real.

Comedys would be nice as well as searious films.\

Can you help??

Really thank you all very much. I copied and pasted and will print a list and then go to the video shop. Should be able to find some here.

The afternoons here are so dam hot now that a movie to watch while trying to stay a little cool would be nice. Great bunch out there.

That depends on your tastes. If you like comedy there are several kinds of comedy. Most of the old Danny Kaye movies are funny. There's the Marx Brothers which still carry the day. A lot of movies with John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd are funny, such as Animal House. There's also Laurel and Hardy. It really depends on your personality. I really hate to suggest anything without knowing more about you. Hope that helped.

Although it never gained much recognition, I consider HOOK to be a very good movie. It is well-written, a cute spin on a familiar story. It's got a wide variety of stars - Julia Roberts, Maggie Smith, Dustin Hoffman, and of course, Robin Williams - there is singing, dancing, drama, comedy, action, intensity, and it moves you from tears to cheers! I have seen it probably 100 times and each time I discover something new to love about it. Have an open mind and check it out!

There are some classic 80s films that are non-violent:

All the John Hughes movies - "16 Candles", "Weird Science", "Breakfast Club", "Ferris Buehler"

"Color Purple" if you want a tear jerker.

More recent ones, "Pan's Labyrinth". I recently saw "Y tu mama tambien."

"Princess Bride" is a great one as well. Plenty of memorable lines. And a good novel to boot.

Oh where to start...

I like a lot of movies, but I'll give you two, serious and comedy...

Comedy...Love Actually. Its funny, but not outlandish and it just makes you feel good after watching it. Even my guy friends and husband like it :D

Serious...though a teensy bit violent, Million Dollar Baby. It was just a great movie.

*The Prestige.
*The Pursuit of Happyness.
*Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
*The 40 Year Old Virgin.
Anchorman.
The Devil Wears Prada.
*The Island.
The Notebook.
*Million Dollar Baby.
*Lost in Translation.
Pirates of the Caribbean (1&2)
Harry Potter (1,2,3,4)
*Cars.
Happy Feet.
The Incredibles.

*The Black Dhalia was good, too..but it's rated R for nudity/violence..so I dunno if you'd be down for that.
But man, you'd be missing out because a great deal of the good movies out there have violence in it, and not because of the violence.
