There are American accents. Foreigners would be more likely to notice them or people from different regions of the country.
Generally, the 2 main accents are the Northern and the Southern, but there are actually many Northern accents. I think there are California, Northwest, Midwest, Middle Atlantic, New York, and New England accents or something like that.

Yes. there many american dialects that very from region to region. ie southern, new england, midwestern, western, and etc. I would have to assume that other countries view the typical newscaster accent as ideal american accent. I don't know that I could pin it to any one region because I feel I talk without an accent and I'm from california. I've taken a diction class that teaches how american english was to be spoken. So if I had to choose a region that would be the stereotypical american accent I would go for southern california.
