Community fish such as guppies, mollies and platys make great starter fish. They are considered beginner fish, they also are live bearers so they will reproduce which is fun to watch, unfortunately they generally eat the babies unless you separate them. So if you get just males you won't have to worry about that. You'll have the most amount of fish in your aquarium if you stick with them. Goldfish are dirty and cichlids and other semi aggressive fish are not beginner fish.

I've never met a nice fish, although all of mine blow kisses at me when I walk by. I assume you mean freshwater fish. Goldfish are a good easy start. Enjoy.

depands on your level of knowleged of fish care. where you are located? wether or not you want to try fresh or salt water.
easy to care for and interesting to look at i would recommend angels.

added to websites to browse through. just remember the small fish you buy today may well and truely out grow your 55 gallon.

1. keep 7 gold fish and one black gold fish.
2.lion head gold fish is also nice looking.
3.if you are fond of angles,keep angle fish.
4.if you are fond of kissing keep kissing fish.

Prefer to one variety only. combination is difficult to maintain.
