Why is it that the Red States have the highest divorce rates, illegitimate birth rates (but one of the five is Delaware), highest grossing gambling markets (but one of the five is New Jersey), deaths by firearms, and highest rates of obesity.

Also the top five "smartest states" according to standardized test scores were all Blue States...while the bottom five are red states.

What party would you want to align yourself with?

I'm only calling it a social pathology b/c you as a party deem sex out of wedlock as immoral. I'm speaking in language you understand...you know a world where everything is black and white w/ no gray in between.

I'm not sure race has anything to do with it, but their sure is a system in place in the south to keep certain types of people economically strapped. This is what Republican policies do to their people. Yeah, you probably are smarter than me, I had to go to school in a Red State. :o(

I've heard these statistics before also. Also, I would add the blue states have a higher level of advanced education. IE, PhD, Masters, etc...

I'm in a southern state but align myself with the blue states. Funny you mentioned this because just tonight I was talking with my sister saying I wish there was a blue state in a warmer climate. It's difficult to grow up in the South then move to the North.

As far as your question, having grown up in the South and in a Republic family, the answer is ignorance and bigotry. Both are ramped here.

Another interesting statistic is that there are many more ppl on welfare in the red states versus blue ones and did you know that more of the nation's overall revenue comes from the blue states. I think that one is due to industries in the North...

Alright hon.

First off, standardized tests dont mean jack ****. If it were up to me I'd have those damn things removed from our education system in a hearbeat.

Neither the democratic nor the republican party can claim to have the moral high ground. Both are deep in the pockets of corporations and special interest groups. Neither will ever accomplish anything worth mentioning with pride.

Its time to change, yes. But real change. Not this "oh well we'll take the lesser of two evils" kind of change. That doesnt accomplish anything.

And half-insulting the red states isnt gonna help anything either. It just makes them defensive and suspicious of you and yours.

I know this because I come from central Pennsylvania, which is the big red section on an electoral map sandwiched in between the two blue bars of the Pittsburgh area (on the west) and the Philadelphia area (on the east). I love the people of that area, they truly wonderful people with good hearts for the most part. They just happen to be way too trusting with lying politicians. (I could go into the reasons for that, but I wont, for the sake of space).

So stop dividing America. Stop attacking and being spiteful. Its time for change yes, but not just knee-jerk partisan hack change. Real change.

Just something to think about.

First, I must state that I have more liberal beliefs, but would vote for any party if the candidate supported my beliefs and I believed them.

But anyways, just because statistics say this does not mean that every single person from either party is like that. I've met people that were strictly Democratic that were idiots. I have also met Republicans that I thought were very kind, very intelligent people. Neither party is any better than the other. Both sides have bad seeds, and this must be remembered. Generalizations like this are what separate this country even farther, and are what distort our views of foreign countries, kind of like how some people think all Muslims are evil.

My theory is that Republicans are mostly, or should be, people that are in the highest tax brackets. That is who the Bush administration has mostly favored by their voting policies anyway so it would make sense to vote Republican only if you are wealthy. Divorces are probably more common in marriages where there is a lot of money (look at Hollywood and celebrity marriages for example). It seems like marriages have a lot of turnover when you are really wealthy.

Obviously if you have a lot of money, you would do a lot of gambling....People with lots of money probably feel that they need firearms to protect them & their cash (although that may or may not be a myth, probably more deaths than protection from those guns).

I suspect high rates of obesity might be related to stressful jobs that help the Republicans to make their large amounts of money. The birth rates surprises me the most; doesn't seem to go with the Republican image that's for sure!

Sounds more like you got the information from 'Democratic Wings: Divorce Rates Higher in Red States'. Well, I'd actually have to see the exact statistics on that.

Besides, why are you in here attempting to belittle Conservatives by saying we divorce more and we're not as intelligent?

You can put any label you want on it, but do you really believe we are THAT stupid?

I didn't get to return to college until age 53. I'm now 57 and I have my degrees and certificates in Project Management, and Law Enforcement. My GPA for both is a 4.0 and I'm proud of it. I was on the Dean's List for Law Enforcement 5 out of 6 semesters..graduated with honors. The same holds true for Project Management and I was included on 'The National Dean's List' for Academic Achievement.

So, please 'cut the crap' and stop downing people in your sneaky, demeaning way.

Because they are ignorant, and their social structure is not conducive to change. Cons think a bit differently, and some more info on this is here;

wow, so you are saying, because you can find correlations somewhere, they must be connected.

Break down your liberal study a bit more. For instance, break down the race of people in those areas, and come back and make a claim that it is because the color or someones skin, and then tell me you are not a hypocrite.

Would you like to compare I.Q. scores? Or are you just trying to make yourself feel better, and a dose of reality wouldn't do that?

Ooooo, look! A liberal is calling illegitimate births a problem of social pathology! You better not let Murphy Brown hear you say that!

The Democrats get most of their votes from both ends of the education spectrum: they get most of the votes of people who are highly educated and most of the votes from people who are very poorly educated. Republicans get most of their votes from people who have an average amount of education.

In answer to your last question: neither. I don't vote any more.
