I think it just depends on what you like. New Orleans is great for there Jambalaya and anything Cajun. Chicago has great pizza and I'm really not a Hot Dog fan, but try a Chicago hot dog- you will be amazed! New york and LA are pretty much the same, they basically have everything- but try New York's pizza as well!

If I had to pick just one I would say Chicago!!

NYC and it's not even close . The reason is simple ; People from probably every country in the world live in NYC and as a result NYC is the NYC is the most culturally diverse city on the planet. This cultural diversity is reflected in the food.
One of the neat things about NYC is that you can always get some incredible and authentic ingredients. The City is full of great grocery stores ,specialty food stores and wine stores not to mention the mom & pop, smalll restaurants, delis , & coffee shops
You did ask which city had the best food not the fanciest restaurants didn't you. ?

Chicago, definitely. New Orleans has too many beans, New York has too much sauerkraut, and LA has too many sprouts.
