It depends on how you go about splitting up the material stuff. If he/she just wants out and doesnt care about the material stuff, you can prolly file for divorce fairly cheap. Mine cost about 2 or 3 hundred bucks. I filed all the paper work myself and we split up everything ourselves (she got most everything as I just wanted my freedom). Tell your friend to go to the court house in town and talk to a clerk there. They should be able to give he/she the information and paperwork needed to get started. Only problem is getting the other person to sign the papers if they dont want the divorce. If thats the case, your friend should mabey go to a lawyer and talk to them. im sure that a decent lawyer would be willing to work out some sort of payment plan if asked, but i cant say for sure. Good luck to your friend.

You start with a consultation with a lawyer. The cost will depend on where you are. Try to see if there is any aid out there from work or government assistance. I got a referral to my lawyer through work and it saved me $500.00 of the top of her fees. So it would have cost me $2000.00, but only $1500 because of the referral.

depending on state but the lowest I have seen with no kids and nothing really to divide is about 475. with kids, and lawyers, and houses, and boats and whatever the sky is the limit, but the paperwork and cost of divorce is 475 in most states, and mind you it takes more than signing one paper, it takes about 1 month to more depending on situation to start the process, and some states require a period of legal separation before even filing out the paperwork.

Go to the local family court. You can get a divorce for about $100.

But if you have children and marital assets, it is better to see a lawyer. He might charge you anywhere from $1,000 to 10,000 depending on the complexity and your location.

Have them call a lawyer and start asking questions. Try to choose a lawyer who specialises in divorce, and also one who won't charge for the first interview, if possible.

500$ without kids and finance issues, meaning you can decide amongst yourselves
