I have 6 month old twins boy and girl, my son has an ear infection, is it still okay for my babies to seep in the crib together?

2007-03-08 17:48:21 · 10 answers · asked by Anonymous in Pregnancy & Parenting Newborn & Baby

My daughter is still sleeping through the night and only waking once, while her brother is waking every couple of hours.

They have always slept in the same crib together, do you think maybe i should seperate them?

Yes,although it may be uncomfortable for the one with an ear infection to be in there with the other one in case the other one bumps into it's ear,or disturb the other one with the constant crying.Ear infections are not contagious and are usually caused by drainage from the throat from allergies around this time of year. You can try to have them sleep together and see how that goes, but i bet that he would rather be in bed with you near by to comfort him while he goes through this.If you don't feel comfortable sleeping with your child in your bed, take the carseat and put a good thick blanket and place him on top of the blanket in there and put the carseat on your bed. That way you will be close to him and everyone will have a place to sleep.

Ear infections are not contagious, so I dont know why it wouldnt be ok. The only thing is if the one is cranky and not sleeping well, the other is likely to wake up.

ARE EAR INFECTIONS CONTAGIOUS?
No, the bacteria inside the ear causing the infection are not contagious. The cold virus that can lead to an ear infection is contagious. Oftentimes, if the ear infection occurs a week after the cold begins, the child is no longer contagious.

Hmmm lets see would you enjoy trying to sleep beside someone who kept YOU up at night, probally not. But if the other baby does't seem to bothered by waking I would still leave them together. Like the other person said they are not contagious.

Is it contagious?
Ear infections themselves are not contagious. Nevertheless, the upper respiratory infections that often set up ear infections are quite contagious.

The same upper respiratory virus might spread throughout a group of children. They might all catch colds, but only those who are otitis-prone might end up with ear infections. Nevertheless, these ear infections might all be caused by different bacteria and respond to different antibiotics!

an infection occurs when the fluid in the ears doesn't drain but incourages bacteria to grow there. in short ear infections aren't contagious.

If I live to be 100 I will never understand why people would take medical advice especially for something as precious as a toddler, When the doctor is just a phone call away!

yes because as you will find if one gets it they both will get it and moving the other twin may just cause the sick one not to rest and lord knows he needs it right now

yes, but take care that the infection was not caused from fluid due to a cold draining into the ear canal. you don't want two babies with colds.
