What do I have to do without a timing light and just using my hands and eyes to get it close enough to get it in time? Can someone please tell me step by step the procedure on what I have to do to get my 1985 Ford Ranger 2.8 V6 4 wheel drive 5 speed truck into time? Just to get the darn thing started!!!!!!

Just turn it to top dead center on #1 and pop the dist. cap & see where the rotors pointing. Good Luck =^ )

Align the timing mark on the crank shaft to 0° and then remove the distubtor cap, turn the dist body untill the #1 plug point on the cap would just be passed the rotor in the direction of rotation (clockwise usually). that's about 4° passed TDC and perfect to start. If the rotor is pointing away from the #1 plug then it's 180° off and the engine needs to be rotated 360° back to 0°. Find #1 plug location on distributor online or just follow the plug wire back from the plug.

Rotate the distributor in one direction, try to start it. If it doesn`t start, rotate the distributor the other direction. Then when it starts, rotate the distributor however much either way until you think it runs best.
