Mickey Mantle - the single greatest talent the game has ever known!

Lou Gehrig all the way! They dont call him the Pride of the Yankees for nothing!he hit 493 homers and if he played longer, he would've broken Babe Ruth's 714 homerun record! And he and Babe Ruth were the reasons why the Yankees became one of the best baseball franchises. But it was mostly Lou Gehrig. And he also played on the best team ever. Murder's Row, 1927 world series champions, the Yankees!

This is something that when people answer you, the emotions and the heart of the fan to a team in particular will affect the judgement. I'm dominican for example, living in DR, to tons of people here, the best team ever was Boston Red Sox 2004, with Manny Ramírez, Pedro and Big Papi. Some will say Manny is the best right now, etc etc etc....

But for me the best player ever pound to pound is Albert Pujols. In his first 6 years he has accumulated numbers noone have done before. He only has 6 seasons an already got 250 HR, won MVP, took the team in his shoulders to win the World Series, with the years before as the contender for the title, also won a Gold Glove award, it's impressive.

If he plays 6 seasons as well, he'll get 500 HR already, imagine just 15 seasons of this man, he'll get probably to 800 HR, so, who would ever do that? Without esteroids problems.......

I think this is a two man race between Babe Ruth and Willie Mays.

Ruth a great pitcher before coming the one of the greatest power hitters.

However I have to go with Willie Mays. The greatest all around player . He hit for power and average. Great defensive centerfielder. Also a great base runner able to steal any base. I think that he is also under rated by fans because he never held any of the big records . But is high on most lists.

Babe Ruth. He could have made the Hall as a pitcher. He was a starting pitcher for about 4 seasons before he became an everyday player. That took away from his HR total-he probably would have had 800 career HR if not for that. He was an outstanding pitcher. [LOL Jose Lind-that was priceless!]

Position Player: Ted Williams. If he hadn't missed four years in his prime to WWII, and two years to injury, he would have broken almost all of Babe Ruth's records.

Pitcher: Cy Young. I don't care if he pitched every day. 511 wins is ridiculous!

Babe Ruth. Great arm in the outfield, .342 lifetime average. Plus some years he hit more homers than entire teams.

My first choice would be Ty Cobb because I'm biased. After that I'd say Babe Ruth because he's arguably one of the best pitchers ever and, also, is probably the best power hitter ever.

And Its WAY too early to call Pujos the best ever. There's a good change he could be when he's all said and done but you can't say that based on his first few years in the league.

Its obviously Hank Aaron!!! i mean just look how many Homeruns he it without the juice! unlike Barry Bonds, if Barry Bonds wouldnt have started steroids, nobody would even b close to aarons record or ruths record for that matter, Henry Aaron is with out a doubt at the top of the charts for me...

Let's take each position individually
1B Lou Gehrig
2B Ernie Banks
SS Derek Jeter(say what you want)
3B Brooks Robinson
C Josh Gibson
LF Carl Yastremski
CF Joe DiMaggio
RF Roberto Clemente
LHP Sandy Koufax
RHP Cy Young (they have an award named after him)
RP Dennis Eckersley

I would have to go with Clemente as the best.
