As far as I am aware, the Confederacy died over a 100 years ago, so maybe you should have posted that in 1860.
Just a thought.

some could say it is because it gives regional identity. But really...many folks (mostly white) have had kin die in the confederate armies. And to hold off a powerful nation as the US was becoming at the time for a period of four years was no small feat...especially considering the Confederacy was propped up from nothing at all. Fortune, circumstance, and the courage of her people gave the Confederacy every advantage that she had at the time. If the laves had been freed before the firing on Sumter, hell, the war might've taken a different turn. The reason behind that is that other than the Emancipation Proclamation...there was no real cause to rally behind. Given that the preserve the Union cause was faltering due in no small part to many high-profile defeats early in the war. Without the Emancipation Proclamation it would have only been a matter of time before the people of the Union would have risen up in protest against the war. And if the Confederacy had utilized its massive black population into service with the armies in exchange for freedom...the Union may have toppled in its cause...and that slight offset could have given the Confederacy the very advantage she needed to end the war. But enough of hypotheticals...now to me it is only about preserving history and its legacy.

Was it stupid to fight for your rights? Was it stupid to stand up against the Federal Government and call it wrong when you saw it as such?
Let's remember one thing about the Civil War, the South lost the military conflict but won more rights as individual states. Sure, slavery was outlawed, but that wasn't the reason for the fight in the first place.
Also, the Confederacy's military and it's people were seen as strong and difficult to control after the war. Here is something to ponder...
If you know anything about the military, you will notice that the most powerful units in the US Army are all stationed in the South. Ft. Campbell, Ft. Bragg, Ft. Hood, Ft. Stewart, and Ft. Benning, just to name a few.
Are they stationed there or are they an "occupation force" in the South?

So stupid how, exactly?
Are you saying that southerners are stupid? Or are you saying that The Confederacy was stupid in 1860?
So, stupid how, exactly??
Nasty Leg has a good point, the winners write the history. The Confederacy was actually within their rights to withdraw if they wanted, regardless of the reason. Technically, Lincoln created a Constitutional crisis by refusing to just let them recede.

read your history, slavery was a small part of the war. The north had the mills, the south had the material. When slavery became a question , the south began to sell cotton overseas, not to the north. That idled the factories, from that sprung war. War is never about justice, it's about profit
edit-
they didn't recede, they seceded

Is it better to stand up for your rights knowing you'll lose, or meekly submit to overarching force? It seems you're not a Southerner, and I bet you're not from New Hampshire, either.

Not stupid. they fought for their state rights. Union was going to over power them in congress. They fought for their state rights not slavery. That was a propaganda brought up by the north to keep England out of the war.

Did you say "Blacks, why so proud for being stupid?"
Some people would say making an insulting blanket statement about a whole group of people makes you a bigot.
If the shoe fits...
