If this is a competition for an American Legion award, write about what patriotism means to you.
If the award is from a bank, write about the banking business.
Whoever is offering the competition, work with their concept.

Try writing a story about how you had to write a story in one night, and all the different ways you tried to get ideas (including posting a question on Yahoo Answers). Compare how useful these ideas were (or weren't). In the end, write how successful you were (or were not), and what you learned from the experience. Trust me, your teacher will love it!
P.S. I'm an English teacher ;)

,i can think of numerous things, but the most recent and funny thing i saw was yesterday
on tv ,by the ,flog it,, antique show on bbc 2.
there was a women bringing in a bunch of old walking sticks, out of the victorian times
1880-19 00.
some sticks where having old silver handles
and other rareties, but one stick had a very strange form like knotted woods.
the auctioneer asked the women if she knew where that walking stick was made of.
she did not have any clou, and so did i,it looked just like a rough piece of a knotted treebranche.
now, said the auctioneer ,wat we have here is a stick made out of a bulls penis!
the women looked shocked (a decent normal looking housewife type)
and a bit upset (walking with that thing in the streets)
it was around 3 feet long,so they must have used also a part of the prostate to get to that enormous size.
the auctioneer was telling that he passed the stick around, among the females working in the office and he got some hilarious comments.
anyway,i dont think they making those things anymore,in the uk,but you never know!
at the auction it fetched over 200 pounds incl the other sticks.
this is a true story, good luck brgds

This is not a joke... How about a story about a girl writing a story for a writing competition? What led up to it and how it turns out...

What kind of story? Fiction? Non-fiction? Adventure? Romance?
How about writing a story about having to come up with last minute inspirations......

I am not a writer but i think you should write about a experience you've had like maybe a holiday or some one you lost. It must be a little easier if you know what you felt or did.

Wander around your house or room. Randomly pick out five objects. Now try to write a short story involving those five objects.

There is no sense in me answering this, if you asked this question a week ago, and you needed it the next day, then why bother answering it, its already past tomorrow. Hope you got a good grade.

Write about what is important to you in the world. Or what is important to you in your life. Otherwise a sure topic to find info on is mass media in our daily lives or undercover politics (like, if certain things that happen in our government are hidden from us) media, is a sure way to go.
