I respect his achievements and influence but I never cared to listen to a whole album of his. I like a few tracks.

Jimi Hendrix was an amazing technician on the electric guitar, but even in the day (I'm old enough to be from the day) I felt his music lacked musicality. He was truly a pioneer, bending notes, using feedback, abusing his instrument (and himself), but much of what he played seemed like electric noise.
Interesting side-note: A soldier friend in Germany was given a non-judicial punishment (they took some money) for playing Hendrix' "Star Spangled Banner" version during a morning battalion formation. He put his speakers in the barracks window, put the LP on the turntable, and turned up the sound. The soldiers liked the break from a routine formation, but the battalion commander was far from impressed.

i didnt so much when i was younger, around 10, but my older sister did..now that im older, in my 40's, I appreciate him and his music and now my 19 yo daughter is turned onto him and his music and talent...i think Lenny Kravitz and a few other present artists took some of what Jimi started and put it into their own music today..he opened the door for sure

Oh yes! I am old enough to remember him and saw him play a couple of times. Once in NYC at a club called The Steve Paul Seen He got up and jammed with 10 Years After. It was a small club and after the gig my girl friend and I raped with him for a few minuets. I also saw him a few time at the Filmore East and in Hartford Conn. Those were the days. Good music High times,

Yes. I'll never forget the first time I heard him... I was about 14. It was one of those cheapo compilations on tape, called Kiss The Sky. An impulse decision (buying the tape) that worked out great! It had a lot of great live stuff on it. Kind of divides your life into before and after, the first time you hear him.

is Jimi Hendrix you're thinking of?
I love him. Really gives himself to his audience while performing at the same time, cannot believe his boldness and I especially like that song 'Castles Made of Sand'.

No. Talentless drugged up, drunken hack. He may have innovated some things with the axe, but he always seemed to me to be just a really sloppy guitarist, who slogged his way into fame because of the way he died. There are many guitarist's out there now and back then that would have handed him his *** on technique.

Jimi Hendrix used to put like 2 or 3 hits of acid in that bandana he always wore before he went on stage so he would be tripping on acid playin his stuff. for those who dont know, even touching acid to your skin will send you on a trip, you dont need to ingest it.
He's the coolest!

Kinda, I can see why he's considered to be the greatest of all time, but I tend to lean more toward the British psychodelic movement of the era.
