Have you had the fluid changed? If not, get it done and check results.

Had same complaint with 85 chev 1/2 ton.The two lugs in oil pump gears had to be replaced, The cause rear U Joint frozen up,it was causing the Shaft not to have flex,Sometimes a U joint will not squeak,If this had been caught earlier would have saved work of drooping trans to replace, two gear oil pump and torque converter. If this is problem the Clunk will turn into a steady Clank, and Metal will
travel to heat exchanger and Converter and Trans.

If you run the car real hard it could be a trans mount or even a motor mount. Universal joints are a distinct possibility too. Check for play in the drive shaft. Have somone eyeball the mounts as you shift the car in and out of nuetral.

Yes I will agree, it is time for a trans oil flush and filter change, if the problem persists, then you need to look at your transmission crossmember bushings, rear end mount bushings, rear end backlash tolerance.

Sometimes a faulty driveshaft u joint can also cause this.

good luck with that.

Transmission mount probably broken. Lets the trans bounce when load is off.

The clunk is probably one of the clutch bands engaging or releasing; it may well be of no significance.

You probably need a new transmission I would take it to a mechanic.

check fluid level and prob change it if it is brown in colour, check for any metal flakes in the fluid ,if so the trans is cactus.
