By a French Maids uniform I guess you mean the short dress, ruffled petticoats and small frilly cap and apron. No, but a long time ago I did work as a maid at a small but very private hotel which required the maids to wear a uniform reminiscent of the Victorian era. Day uniform was pink striped dress (calf length) white collar and cuffs with a cream full length bib apron and white cap. This was our heavy cleaning uniform. Afternoon and evening was long black dress, large pinafore white frilled apron and frilled cap. This uniform was for light cleaning, working in the dining room and room service. If you mean the afore mentioned short maids uniform I think it would be very impracticable for housework as the shortness would expose the wearer to undue attention. However, a correct French Maids uniform of the 1900's was similar to (but frillier and lacier) than a British maids uniform.

it is a sexualized version of the actual french maids dress which was in the 1800s a full length black dress with a white collar, apron and hat ruffle.
