Please don't answer just to bash a party. I understand most Republicans. Most believe in God. Most believe in slow change with little spending. And I understand Liberals to be mostly the about no restriction freedom with very little government. Democrats are just for democracy? These lines do not at all seem clearly drawn enough for anyone to label themselves or anyone else?

it is much easier to use labels and group people together than it is to take each on their personal political, social and fiscal beliefs - therefore people just start lumping people.

i am neither a republican or a democrat, but if i get into a debate with a republican i am autmatically labeled a democrat or liberal. same thing with democrats, any debate with one and i'm automatically labeled a republican or conservative. actually, the truth lies somewhere in between, but it is just easier for them to label me as "opposition" and marginalize my opinions thant to actually have to THINK about a position that may not be exactly the same as theirs.

People feel more comfortable expressing their views in groups than by themselves. Also, being part of an association/group is part of humanity...we all want to feel that we belong to something. Regarding politics, their views are mostly similar; they just like to argue with each other.

I heard this phrase a few days ago and it explains it all perfectly to me.

Republicans want to be your Daddy, Democrats want to be your Mommy...that's the clearest way I have ever heard it said.
