If you mean riches in terms of money, I don't know the answer, because there may be people in the world who are not known for their riches, but there may be richer men than the richest man known in the world

I would not rather speak in terms of haves or havenots, when I want to bring into focus the really rich man or rather the richest man in the world.

First, we need to define the yardstick for determining richness. There may be many yardsticks by which richness could be measured. But let us take a different approach where yardsticks become irrelevant. Let us proceed this way. For me, the richest man in the world is not rich at all, if he craves for more wealth, for one who craves for wealth, is poor within, he is really poor inspite of his vast possessions, he is trying to fill his inner poverty through acquisition of more and more wealth. He is interested in quantity, which has no end in itself. Where is the quality here? Our minds are trained into thinking in terms of quantities while measuring riches. What about the quality then? Does quality of richness have any meaning while speaking in terms of material possessions? Let us find out.

First, let us study the mind, where the question has come from. Mind is never interested in quality, it is interested in numbers, it is influenced by the size and extent, it wants to find place in the Guinness Book of World Records which is nothing but the number game. How about quality then? It is there, but it is not the element of mind, it is the trait of the heart. There is no quality in work, if there is no heart behind it. We say, when speaking about good work, that one has done the work whole-heartedly, not whole-mindedly. So quality comes in where heart takes over, mind stops at that point where the heart takes over, in those rarer moments of heart taking over the mind, many a men have created great arts and works of outstanding quality.

We are habituated in measuring riches in quantities, which is not real richness. The desire for more wealth is not only a sign of greed but also speaks of poverty within. He seeks a substiute to fill the void or emptiness within through wealth or knowledge or love, or whatsoever, which he thinks would fulfill the emptiness within. He is a beggar in the real sense, although he may be a millionaire, if he desires more money to add to his riches.

So, desire is the key word. If one has nothing or a millionarie, and also has no desires, he is rich, dont bring in superlatives here, because there is no comparison, because he is self-fulfilled within.
