Be open and honest, and tell him how you feel. But also tell him that if he doesn't feel that way also, how important his friendship is to you.
Be prepared to get knocked back, and remember if you do date, and it doesn't work out, you lose a good friend also.
Many long a loving relationships start out as friendships.

Be careful, as men will run, after finding out they have lost their friend, to a potential girlfriend,,if you like this guy and do not want to loose the friendship,,be gentle in your approach,,I have lost many,,they say ya,,but eventually will find new friends if they do not feel the same way,,, good luck

u can't, theres a 50/50 chance that u'll ruin it, 50 that he likes u and the relationship is good, and the other 50 that he duznt like u and the friendship is ruined

Hint that you like him and see if he goes along with it...telling him flat out will scare him and make him dislike you.

Give hints..like you say something like "Would you like to share a coke with me? I'm afraid that I can't finish it? or "Can you accompany me to mall to have me choose a gift for mum or dad?"..

How about "I think I Love You ".You are obviously not that sure or you would have told him by now and saying you think it is normal from a girl ,thinking your in love and being in love are very different.
