I'm on a semi-limited budget, and don't want to spend all the money on a hotel. Also, where is a good place to park your car? Where is a good restaurant? What attractions do you recommend?

Schaumburg is your best bet and you can take the public train (Metra) into the city and skip the driving. Oak Brook is very high end and it isn't cheap. Also the zip code to Oak Brook is 60523, the zip code the above poster gave was for Oakbrook Terrace (Oak Brook's low class neighbor). Woodfield Mall is one of the largest if not the largest in the state and has every shop you can imagine.

I would recommend the Schaumburg area. Its close to O'Hare airport (I dont know if you are flying) Woodfield mall is right there, as well as many many restaurants. There is a Medeval Times dinner and tournament show there. Its quite expensive though. I dont know if you have kids, or when you plan to travel, but Six Flags is about an hour away. In chicago, go to the Field Museum or any of the other museums that are right there. Or the Shedd Aquarium. There is the Lincoln Park Zoo. Shopping on Michigan Avenue. Honestly now that I think about it, if you are going to Chicago, you should just stay in the City instead of a suburb. Then you can get everywhere easily. Of course parking is tough. Usually you can park at your hotel garage for a fee.

If you stay downtown, you save up to two hours a day getting from your hotel to downtown and back. If you want to stay in the suburbs, you might want to look at Evanston or Skokie. In Evanston, you can walk to the El or Metra which will take you downtown with no hassles. From Skokie, you can catch a bus to the El or drive to the Howard St El terminal. There is a parking ramp there.

When I drive downtown, I usually park at one of the Grant Park ramps. They are easy to get to from the expressway and are near a number of places that I recommend you see including the Art Institute and the Cultural Center.

The answer to your question is Oakbrook Il or Schaumburg, Il. Both towns are surrounded by hotels, restaurants and a large mall in each city, as well as a few nightclubs. StayBridge in Oakbrook Terrace is reasonably priced and as for Schaumburg, there are millions to choose from. Go to expedia and search zip codes 60173(Schaumburg) or 60181 (oakbrook).

Don't go to the suburbs. Stay downtown where all the action is. There are plenty of parking garages, and the hotels have valet.

www.metromix.com has plenty of "what to do" while you are here. Enjoy!
