I give a thumbs down to poor answers.
For example, if someone was to answer your question, here with 'Nup', or 'Yeah, all the time'. I'd give that a thumbs down. It's just not a good answer in my opinion.
I think if you're going to answer a question, answer it.
Don't just grunt, monosyllabically. That doesn't show any respect for the person who asked the question.
Regardless of whether or not you thought it a good question.
You always have the choice not to answer.

When i see a bunch of answers and my answer is the only one with a thumb down i'll give everyone a thumb down.

when someone gives a rude answer or posts some type of false advertisement (i.e.: going to a website that makes you a lot of money)

usually if the person was very rude, like name calling. also if they didn't answer the question at all. but i hardly ever do either, whats the point? we don't get points for doing it.
