Studies indicate that :
* An estimated $12 billion a year is now spent on advertising and marketing to children
* Young children are not able to distinguish between commercials and TV programs. They do not recognise that commercials are trying to sell something
* In 2000, teenagers, ages 12 to 17, spent a record $155 billion
* In 2001, children ages four to twelve spent an estimated $35 billion
* In 1997, children 12 years and under, directly and indirectly, influenced the household spending of $500 billion
Countries such as Sweden, Norway, Belgium and Austria have even imposed an outright ban on advertising during children's television programmes.
The impact is:
*The experience of longer hours of watching television is clearly affecting the attention span of children and their readiness to undertake tasks that require a sustained application of mind and body.
*Hyperactivity among young children is more evident and the boredom threshold has dropped for many children
*The media creates in the child's mind - through active absorption, and assimilation of media messages- a need for quick gratification.
*Children begin to desire particular kinds of toys or other consumer products, including clothes, foods, soaps and cosmetics, as well as particular kinds of music. For older children, identification with certain 'brand name' products and their associated advertising pitches also creates a desire for a particular kind of life-style.
*The media provides new kinds of role models for children to emulate and new professions to aspire towards.
* With TV channels importing or cloning western programmes with violent imagery and accompanying strong language, children are increasingly imitating and absorbing the aggressive behaviour and foul language that they are exposed to.
* Greater sexual awareness among children is becoming evident, as also an earlier stimulation of sexuality among pre-adolescents.
* Moreover, gossip among boys and even girls today is far more wide-ranging and loaded with sexual innuendoes as well as half-digested notions of sexual perversities.

This query is rather vague; children include all people aged
0 through 17 yrs, 364 days. Children are products of their
own biology, environment, and desires and wishes.
Some children are "vulnerable" to any outside messages
[outside of their homes] and others tune most messages
[that do not come from parents or teachers] out.
Some research shows that most cereal and candy is sold
based on both peer usage and advertising.
IT is also recognized that how other kids look is important
to girls more than boys.
According to Marti Bafletta, Marketing to Women,
girls begin to perceive advertising differently than boys
perceive ads and act differently.
IN some cultures, it is felt that advertising is the work of the devil. Interesting to give an art/science so much power.
Advertising is literally the combined efforts of both
very naive and very experienced people in TV,
newspapers, magazines, and other media. Some ads
only wish to inform [missionary ads] and and others
wish to get the buyer to buy from a very specific store
at a specific time NO MATTER what the viewer needs or wants. Such ads are wasteful and ......perhaps closest
to what others call the devil's work.
lastly, while many people not in the field would agree,
others not in the ad biz CLAIM ads make people buy.
OH, if were only so........
thanks for asking

Advertising in magazines do not have any effect. Visual advertisements cause a very high impact on children. The activities of children changes as per the things shown in advertisements. You might have observed that children watch advertisements rather than serials on T.Vs. For fun, if the advt shown on a T.V. contains some immoral things/bad things, children used to copy in their life.

the basic purpose of advertising is to inform the customers about the existence of the product and its features. thereby companies will sell their products. products may be for old people, young people, women, children etc. this is called as target marketing. but children are spending hours togethe3r before the tvs and watching ads. some ads are not meant for children. they must be telecasted in some specific time only. suppose any ad with regard to mala-d will be an embarassing to the parents if the child asks the question what is it. hence telecasters must be careful with regard to ads especially in prime times as there is a possibility that children will spoil by advertisements. basically a child is the product of environment.

advertising is the art of convincing people to spend money they don't have for something they don't need.
many parents have no time for the children for many reasons.
these parents give money to the children instead of love , care and much needed attention.
children think that money is everything and fantasise for something they see on T V commercials.and when their illusion is lost they land up in big trouble along with their parents.

I lived in a house before I got this apartment and my kids rarely watched t.v. They seemed to be more behaved, especially when we would go in a store. Now they want everything they see. They also beg to go to McDonalds about 500 times each week for the new happy meal toys. I can't take them in a store without them dashing off to the toy aisle to find the latest toy. It's ridiculous.

WHEN ELDERS ARE SUSEPTABLE FOR ADVERTISING, CHILDREN ARE MORE INFLUENCED BY ADS.
THEIR VIEW OF THINKING IS LIMITED IN GUESSING THE TRUE VALUE OF THE PRODUCT.
THEY ARE VERY EASILY DRAWN TOWARDS ATTRACTIVE ADS.
MANY A TIMES THEY CAN FORCE THEIR PARENTS TO PURCHASE THEIR CHOICE OF PRODUCT EASILY.
A GOOD AD TARGETED CHILDREN WILL HAVE MORE EFFECT THAN A NORMAL AD.
