Numerology refers to any of many systems, traditions or beliefs in a mystical or esoteric relationship between numbers and physical objects or living things.

Numerology and numerological divination were popular among early mathematicians, such as Pythagoras, but are no longer considered part of mathematics and are regarded as pseudomathematics by most scientists. This is similar to the historical development of astronomy out of astrology, and chemistry from alchemy.

Today, numerology is often associated with the occult, alongside astrology and similar divinatory arts. The term can also be used for those who, in the view of some observers, place excess faith in numerical patterns, even if those people don't practice traditional numerology. For example, Underwood Dudley uses the term to discuss practitioners of the Elliott wave principle of stock market analysis.

Like astrology and palmistry, numerology is used to predict future of individuals. It is based on your date of birth and a value is arrived for your name by adding the numbers attached to each alphabet. Following example will explain:
Name Rahul 2+1+5+6+3= 17, 1+7 = 8
Date of birth 14 .7. 1980
14 = 5
7 = 7
1980 = 18
____________________
30
The lucky Numbers from date of birth are 5 and 3 and from name it is 8. These numbers will play important part in the life.

numerology is the belief that hidden relationships can be discovered by translating text into numerical form.

Sometimes, individual digits are identified with certain traits and sometimes certain multi-digit numbers are (for instance the ever popular 666).

It is similar to astrology in that it generally attempts to predict tendencies more than spot on predictions. Also, like astrology, it is difficult to pin down just what claims are being made and judge them clearly false or true.

For instance, if I use 1 for a, 2 for b, 3 for c and so on, the name Bush would translate into 2, 21, 19, 8. You could then sum up those to get 50. Adding the 5 and zero of 50 would give you the number 5 for 'Bush'.

If you had some characteristics of 5, you could then apply them to someone named Bush.

It seems a strange thing to believe in, especially when you have foreign names that are spelled in many different ways- Quadaffi, Kadafi, Qaddafi and so on.

Experts in numerology use the numbers to determine the best time for major moves and activities in life. Numerology is used to decide when to invest, when to marry, when to travel, when to change jobs, or relocate. Numerology is an occult science and for me it's fascinating. It is perhaps the easiest of the occult arts to understand and use. All you need is the birth date and the complete name of an individual to unlock all of the secrets that the numbers hold.

Numerology
In the world of numerology, the ancient study of numbers, all numbers have a reality of their own. To the numerologist, all of the hustle and bustle of this modern world can be reduced to the numbers that stand behind the appearances. Each number has a life and meaning of its own and, in the last analysis, this life is our life. Using only the date of our birth and our given name (as recorded on our birth certificate), we can find those numbers that represent our particular life force. When these life numbers are seen in the context of the continual interchange and play of numbers in the world around us, certain trends and opportunities become clear. At any time during our life we are primarily working with one or several specific numbers and what they symbolize.

The English suffix -ology or -logy denotes a field of study or academic discipline, and -ologist describes a person who studies that field.

Not every field of study or discipline is an '-ology', and not all words ending in -ology are studies in the above sense.

But as a rule, it works most of the time...
Thus, numerology is the study of numbers.
