I like algebra because even 22 years after graduating from high school it is one subject I can honestly say you will use almost every day in real life, pretty much regardless of which way you decide to go.

There are several subjects I can think of that I believe are about a complete waste of time, but algebra is not one of them.

I am not a teacher, but if I ever decided to become one, I would probably teach algebra for this exact reason.

Algebra may be really annoying now, but when you learn to drive, it won't be.

Every time you decide when you have enough time to make a turn against oncoming traffic, you're solving a partial differential equation.

The same when you catch a ball or a frizbee, throw a ball to your dog, or just guess if you have enough time to walk across the street or if you need to run.

What exactly is frustrating you about it?

I teach high school math (alg 1, geom, and alg 2 currently).

Algebra is only annoying and frustrating if you don't get it. Now, every kid can get it, you might just have to work a little harder for it. See your teacher for extra help, get tutoring if you can afford it.

School subjects are only frustrating for the uninformed. Kids who naturally seem to understand everything are always such a joy to deal with, not because they are easy to teach, but because their attitudes are so nice.

I have a theory--as far as I know no one has ever written a thesis on it, so you are welcome to use it--that people either have "algebra minds," where they like to solve puzzles, or "geometry minds," where they like to take what they know and build on it. You probably like geometry, which I found maddening--if you already know something, why prove it? What they both do, though, is teach you to think in other ways, which can be helpful if you don't overdo it.
