Chicago is a great city. I have lived in the suburbs of it all my life. The chicagoland area is huge and it is really easy to live outside the city and commute into it. If you don't know, then just take a trip there. Especially in the summer it is great, hot but great.

Chicago is one of the most underrated big cities in America. But there are big differences between living in California and living here. Not sure what city you're from in Cali, but you must remember it SNOWS here and gets COLD. I know, there is snow and cold in California, but you mostly have to head up to the mountains to see it. if you live in the LA area, you'd better be prepared to live in that type of weather for at least four or five months. That being said, Chicago is GREAT in the summer: beaches, street fairs, outdoor concerts, zoos, theater, parks, lakefront bikepaths, nightclubs and bars that stay open until 5 a.m. on the weekends, every type of music venue imaginable, concerts by every big name musical act (they HAVE to come through Chicago), a team in every major sports (some good, some... not so good), etc etc etc.. People from all over the area move here after graduate school to find work and to live. Pay a visit her first, spend a week or so to get a feel for the place, the rhythm. I'd even recommend visiting in the colder months to see if you can handle it. But there are a lot of opportunities here, it's really not that expensive to live here (you can find decent housing in some decent neighborhoods for abut $650-900 for a one bedroom). check it out.

It's definitely different than California. The winters here are really cold. However, the summertime is definitely worth the move. Spending your days on Oak Street beach along the Lakefront is a great way to relax on the weekends.
Welcome to Chicago!

Chicago is a beautiful city with a lot of things to do and a lot of culture. I personally am not a city person, so I would not move there. The winters are brutal, so coming from Cali, you need to be prepared. you should definately visit first. I have lived in the Chicago suburbs all my life. When my sister was in her 20's she lived downtown for years and loved it.

i just moved here from kansas city, now you wont have the same problem i had. compared to kansas its sooo much more expensive here. I lived in an apartment for $450 there apartments here are like $700-$900 i could buy a house for 90k there its more like 175k but you coming from Cali you should be used to prices like that. Visit first the winters here can be kinda bad. I think if you like it n the city you'll like it but the price to live in the city is in the $1000's. Oh and need i say Ummm windy city?

You should go to Chicago and visit before moving there or anywhere. Find out if you like it or not. I'm sure it's like my city; it has good sections and bad. I would love to visit California.
