if it is the first pregnancy then this is normal. The expansion of the uterus is very uncomfortable for the female, not to mention the insides. Every child that we bring into this world is unique as it grows into development within the womb. They are as much individual as we are. I think that unless your wife is feeling abnormal symptoms, perhaps, she should just grin and bear it.

I have a 19 year old step-daughter who is pregnant with her 2nd child. Believe me, they are all unique.

I am not not talking in a negative way. I do believe that she is not happy with what her body is doing now, but it doen't get any better when they come into the world and start talking and expressing their opinions.

The tightness is only the expansion of the shrinked uterus, if prior child involved. Every pregnancy is different. It just plain out hurts and is very uncomfortable. Just be there for her, and quit worrying as that stresses her out with her hormones enraged.

Best of luck!!!!

Tightness in the stomach can be contractions. When the tightening happens, does her uterus also harden?

This is not uncommon, and called "Braxton Hicks contractions. Here is some info from Wikipedia:
-----------
"Braxton Hicks' contractions, also known as false labour (British English, false labor in American English) or practice contractions. Braxton Hicks are sporadic uterine contractions that actually start at about 6 weeks, although one may not feel them that early. Most women start feeling them during the second or third trimester of pregnancy. It is a tightening of the uterine muscles for one to two minutes and is thought to be an aid to the body in its preparation for birth. Not all expectant mothers have these contractions. They are thought to be part of the process of effacement, the thinning and dilation of the cervix."
----------

Note: If the contractions become painful, she should see her ob/gyn.

This is normal. You can see your doctor if you want to, It could also be the baby rolling around it there. Is it very low in her abdomen. The first time I felt the baby move it felt like tightening and pressure. I was kinda leaning so I think it squished the uterus so the baby had less room. It was at 15 weeks. The baby started to kick shortley after that. Good Luck

Usually normal during pregnancy since the baby is growing and in some cases the mother's body does not grow as fast as the babies (hence the stretchmarks). If you are concerned by all means speak to your wife's gyno.

It is probably because her stomach and skin are stretching to make room for the baby. I had the same thing in my first pregnancy. Not so much in the second because the baby wasn't as big as the first. (First was a boy, second was a girl)
