Can you believe that, adjusted for inflation, Gas hasn't gone UP in over 50 years?
Can you believe that at $3.00 a gallon, it's actually CHEAPER than it was at $1.00 a gallon in 1985?
WOW! Can you believe they want to invent something else?

Inflation has not contributed to a three-fold increase in gas. That assumption is totally ridiculous. 1985 was only 22 years ago. A 1985 dollar is not worth three 2007 dollars (silly suggestion).
to answer your question ...something better has been invented as far as fuel economy, cost efficacy, and environment friendliness. Many things have been invented.
There are a few problems. What do we do? Have two different types of "Gas Stations" because we have two different types of "gas engines" (gas being replaced by the newer technology). It'd be difficult. Some auto manufacturers would still use gas...some would switch.
And right now, there is money in fuel. How reliant have we become on fuel? Almost completely. If you couldn't drive tomorrow ... what would you do? Walk to work? Maybe for some, but I live a fortnight away by foot.
Don't hold your breath, but i'd embrase ideas as to solutions (but why to the eco-friendly cars have to be so damned ugly?)

Yes, we could have had something much better.
Look at all other areas of technology - we have had so many imporvements, but when it comes to cars.... almost no improvements. You could even argue that a car build in the 1950's is better than anything from 2007! Seriously!
No one can say a computer from even two years ago is better than one built today!
It has to do with politics. Big Oil has a put a stop to a lot of things. Plus auto-makers need to make money, if they built a car that lasted for 30 years, they would go out of business. So we can't be too mad, since everyone has to look out for their own interests. That is understandable.

There have been several inventions over the years. As always, big bucks win out. There is a converter, and sorry, I forget the website address but you can probably find it on Google, and there is a waiting list for the converter, but your vehicle will run on grease - as in old frenchfry grease from McDonald's or where ever. And there are several others. They're out there, believe me. God, even with Hybrids, they've tried so hard not to let those go thru and make them so expensive the average person can't afford them. Plus, there are cheap electric cars out there, but the big companies put the squash on those. There's also a car that runs on corn cobs.
Heck, my old diesel Volkswagon Rabbit used to get 52 miles per gallon back in the early 80's. Why did they stop making them?? Try to find one of those!! The technology is there, believe me. ps. NYorkers pay 66 cents tax on every gallon of gas.

WE have, theres the solar car, engines that run on compressed air, engines that run on water, total self rechargable electric motors. permanet magnet engines.
Japan has a permanet magnet train that runs across the country .
So why don't we have all this? GREED, Comercailizim, industry, political, religious, and corporate rulers are making trillions off the system thats in place now.
All of our huge space stations run off the sun and men live up there with air condition, heat, microwaves, all the electronics lights, communications and even make thier own water and air. You don't think that the rulers of the world are going to give us all that for nothing do you?
Well very soon all this is going to change through Gods Kingdom Government that will control earths affairs and give us what we lost in the beginning, " Ever lasting life on a paridise earth.
Sincerely yours,
Fred M. Hunter

A lot of engines than run on substances other than gas have been invented. But our government does not want us to use them because the big money oil industry would lose soooo much money. Some even invented an engine that ran off of pee. Could you imagine filling up your tank?????

There is not a shortage of oil yet but USA has control of a lot more oil than you think!! The media just doesn't let us know about it. We are taking contol of a lot of oil based countries or either buying it from them and when a shortage comes around USA will become the dominant factor and control the oil embargoes.

Over the last seventy years, it has been cheaper to buy oil from somewhere else, ship it here, refine it, and distribute it on a national scale than to use any other fuel source. New technology will eventually emerge that will allow us to become independent of middle eastern oil.
