First off...are you sure your ferret is three months old? ;) If you got him/her from a pet shop he/she most likely is from Marshall Farms. I can tell you (for fact) that they give you 'birth certificates' with the incorrect information on them. I recently rescued 3 ferrets from a pet shop and they were still supposed to be weaning!! The pet shop gave me the ferrets 'supposed' birth certificates dating 6 months. Liars!

Anyway...here is my first tip: Take your ferret to the vet! My second tip is to visit this web site: http://www.ferretuniverse.com This site offers ALL the information you will need to keep your ferret healthy and happy. Do it at your leisure as it will probably take you a few days to read everything thoroughly.

As far as peronal opinions go, mine are to: make sure you have a cage that has atleast 4 levels. No wire please! This will hurt your little pets feet. :( Food is important. I recommend mixing 2 types of quality ferret food together to make your own signature "ferret mix". I use 8in1 brand and ZuPreem. 'Wyosing' offers the best ferret food around but they are a bit expensive. If it is in your budget to try it you should. Ferrets need more then their food can provide. Giving your ferrets a "high calorie viatmin" such as FerriVite (made by 8in1) will provide them with anything missing from their diet. Also...don't forget the treats please! :)

You can find a good cage, good food, and the FerriVite at the following site at a discount. I like this site because it is ALWAYS cheeper then my local pet store.

Good luck and take care of those fuzz-butts!

Buy the ferrets for dummies book it will tell you everything you need to know. Clean their litter box everyday....you will be suprised how much a ferret can poop. I have found thats where about 80% of the smell comes from. You should also buy the bi-oder stuff and add it to their water each day, this will decrease the smell of their poop and body odor. Also you should buy some ferretvite and add it to their food each day. Buy a dryer tube for it to run through they really like them. You can cut holes through boxes and let it run around. Instead of bedding(they don't like) give it an old t-shirt or small fleece blanket, it will like it better and it will keep it warm. DON"T bathe it, this will make it smell more and dries the skin out. They sell a dry shampoo that you can buy and is easier to use. During playtime keep a very close eye on your ferret they run like rockets and before you know it will be hiding in another room. You can buy a playpen or let it play on your bed so that you know where it is at all times. They do litter train easily if you have a big cage you may want to get a cat litter box so that it doesn't poop in another corner, if it does buy some ferret off and that will stop it from using a different corner. Also if you find that you don't have as much time for the fuzzie a friend is always a good thing for a ferret they are very social animals and tend to be happier in pairs. I know mine was happy when I got him a new girlfriend!!!!

Ignore the advice of people who tell you to feed it kitten food. It's not good for them. Use a ferret food instead. Do not feed it vegetables- they can't digest them. Give small amounts of ferretone (a syrup-like vitamin for their coats) every other day. They love the taste. Don't give them too much. Follow instructions on the bottle for a kit. Keep him in his cage when you can't actively watch him. They can get into more places than they can get out of. Go through your house with a toilet paper tube- any place that you can stick it in should be covered, including open speakers, uncovered wall outlets, paper shredders, etc. Buy a camcorder, because America's funniest home video will occur in your house soon. Hold him every chance you get. Don't let him play outside without a harness and leash on and vigilant supervision. Keep him away from cats and large birds. Enjoy him. They like to sleep in ferret hammocks.

at first, i think of it particularly is super you're studying. I have been given my first ferret 2 a million/2 years in the past. From my own experience 2 a million/2 years in the past, ( I have been given something comparable) - the cage is in basic terms too small for something to be in allot, and that i dont have self assurance in caging till it particularly is at evening or "emergency" circumstances, and so on., the ferret isn't happy in that ( or in any cage particularly), yet once you do get that cage do in basic terms no longer shop it in there allot i decide to advise a cage for "emergencies", to shop the food and water and domicile a muddle container - yet make a gated section on your place the place they may be out lots of the time in a secure ecosystem. they're curious, clever, and corresponding to 2 3 hundred and sixty 5 days olds. they want and could be into each and every thing. i stumble on it humorous and a snicker and that they shop me on my ft :) - i exploit wee wee pads (doggie education pads) in the corners of my domicile the place the ferrets roam approximately. - i like bowls for water and food that latch onto the cage. i do unlike water bottles. they have an inclination to chew on the spout difficulty, and it variety of feels like they conflict to get adequate water. - The food is tough. you like food that has genuine components in meat, severe in fat and protein. Ferrets get linked to their food so attempt to bear in concepts that they may be puzzling to alter meals latter on in case you'll be able to desire to. - do no longer Use the care clean. it particularly is messy and in all probability no longer sturdy to breath in the debris. i exploit the day previous to this's information for muddle in a sq. muddle container of their cage. i exploit a towel to line the backside of their cage. ensure you detect a competent vet on your section which will seem at ferrets. you will need pictures, and not all vets are nicely versed or will see ferrets. puppy shop ferrets have the starter pictures, yet no longer the 2nd set, and that they in all probability will want rabies vaccinations. locate out your state rules.

Be aware that they like to steal things and hide them in odd places. Watch out for your car keys or they may end up under the stove like mine did!
