I would not change my name because of the cost and the difficulty. Every document and degree as to bee change if you change your name and each school charges you for this and the time. Your friends have a harder time finding you if you change your name and if you get a divorce you and don't want to go by that name anyone have to pay all over again. Also the first change costs money so why do it. And traditionaly men can take the womens name so why don't they do it now.

I changed my name and don't regret it. At the time part of my decision was because if I was joining this man in a partnership for the rest of my life, why would I want to keep a name that isn't a part of it? I also was glad to change it since my maiden name is hard to pronounce correctly and people never spell it right, and my married name is very straightforward.

Incidentally, it didn't cost much at all to have my SSN changed into my married name, and as for my degrees, well, the BS has my maiden name, and the MS has both maiden and married on it.

It was hard to do (emotionally) so I didn't at first. Then after my second child was born I felt like we were all a part of the same whole so it was silly for me to have a different last name. If it weren't so long I would have used both names but that got tedious after awhile. If I could have convinced the hubbie I would have had all of us carry a combination of my last name and my husband's.

That's an old custom. If the bride wants to change her last name then she should, if not keep it the same. Why can't the groom be the one to change their last name. By the way my wife chose to change her's because of tradition.

I am not married yet but, when I do marry I will keep my last name and add his. I have had it for so long, I wouldn't know what to do without it...
