Depends. If the gorilla is King Kong the gorilla wins. If the bear is Smoky the Bear, the bear wins because he knows how to prevent forest fires-the gorilla has no clue.

Gorillas are smarter, but bears are bigger and have claws. Also bears are carnivores, so they know how to kill. Gorillas are vegetarians.

I'll put my money on the bear.

What kind of bear?
If it's a grizzly bear, the gorilla's screwed.
If it's a panda bear, the gorilla wins.

The bear. Unless that gorilla is King Kong, he will be clawed and bitten to death.

Let’s assume that fight would not happen in the wild since those two would never meet there (gorillas only live in Central Africa). They could meet in captivity (what an ugly word…) if there’s a security problem at the zoo and they both escape their respective cages and even then, I don’t think they would fight because zoo animals look to me like they’re kinda lazy and bored, being so well fed with nothing to do except having to watch all those human families parading in front of them all day long. If they escape, they would just go lie on a sofa somewhere and watch Animal Planet on TV…

In the wild, a bear could maybe have to face a…wolf, for example, like if they both find a yummy carcass. The bear will have the upper hand against the wolf because it’s bigger and stronger but wait till the wolf brings its posse, then the wolves would have the upper hand. And then there would be no fight anyway because in the first case, the lonely wolf would just back down and in the second case, the outnumbered bear would.

So you need a fight that is mostly in the “what if” world, the theoretical world (or a sick world where people organize fights among animals, but I will not got there, barf!), a fight which really is about strength versus brain. It’s like if you ask about a fight between a woman and a man, who would win? There is so many criteria to consider here but if the woman is Sidney Bristow, Lara Croft or Beatrix Kiddo/The Bride/Black Mamba, you’re in trouble if you’re the man (or the men) against her, no matter how much one weighs compare to the other.

I don’t know why (bananas, anyone?) but some people think the bear will win because they think that gorillas are herbivore (eating only plants) and bears are carnivore, and therefore more ferocious... In fact, gorillas are omnivore (plants and meats) juste like humans. Some humans are vegetarians, meaning they choose not to eat meat but they could if they had to (stranded for more than two months on the top of a snowy mountain where there plane crashed, for example…) but that’s beside the point unless you want to make me laugh by saying a gorilla is a vegetarian…
So the bears are carnivore (they eat mostly meat but they still eat fruits like apples…) and the gorillas are omnivore so they eat anything, and all of that has nothing to do with the outcome of the fight.

Your question is pretty vague (what kind of bear, what kind of gorilla? Are they hungry or just pissed off? What the temperature? lol).

I will just assume the following and mix it up to make it fun:
The bear would be a Grizzly-Polar bear hybrid, instead of just Grizzly or Polar, so you don’t have to chose, they’re both represented, even if you would have a hard time finding and catching a live one... The bear would then be either a "Pizzly bear," (offspring of a male Polar bear and a female Grizzly) or a "Grolar bear." (offspring of a male Grizzly and a female Polar bear) but it would be a male bear since female bears are about half the size of the males which would give the Gorilla too much advantage and since it did not bribe me…
Of course, we could have another fight between a female bear and a female gorilla…

You could also choose a Kodiak-Polar bear hybrid but I think the Grizzly would be more fun because two “z” are more fun than two “k”.
The Polar bear, by itself, is an enormously powerful predator. It’s the most carnivorous of all the bears and can weights up to 1300 lb. and stands 8 feet. They caught one in Alaska in 1960, that was almost 1960 lb., yes, the year 1960 and the weight 1960 lb.…and 11 feet 11 inches but I think that was either a freak like, I don’t know, André the Giant if it had been human…or they put a hose down its throat and filled it up with water before they officially weighed him for the Guinness World Records.

The bear in our fight would not be a Polar bear but either a Pizzly bear or a Grolar bear which would not be as big. It would still be bigger than a male gorilla (the female gorilla, like the female bear is about half the size of the male so she would be out of the fight unless the bear is female too).

A male gorilla can weight between 300 and 500 lb. which would be half to a third of the weight of the bear it’s facing but since the fight is really about strength versus brain, the gorilla possessing 98% of the same nuclear DNA as humans has really an edge there. Physically, humans are not as strong as bears or gorillas but they still rule the planet because they’re smarter. Humans can create global warming to bother the polar bears and put the gorillas in zoos, we can do whatever we want…because we’re smart and stupid at the same time…
DNA wise, there is more differences between a gorilla and a chimpanzee than between a gorilla and a human. The gorillas, the chimpanzees and the humans are all primates (we’re in the same family…hominidae).

All of that makes you think… poor bear. What is its family? (Ursidae)

So the bear is bigger, has huge claws and can bite really hard because of its huge fangs. A bear will hit you so hard by the time you stop rolling your cloches will be out of style…a bear will hit you with deadly force, it will hurt more than if a gorilla hits you but the bear will not be fast enough to avoid the hit of the gorilla and the gorilla will be fast enough to avoid the hit of the bear…A polar bear can kill a whale in one blow, only if the whale is stuck in ice and cannot move. The gorilla is not stuck anywhere, it’s fast and smart, so the bear cannot get to him. No bear will ever come close enough to the gorilla to strike him.

Yes, the bear could kill the gorilla with one blow only if the bear could get to him. The gorilla is not some 4 tons whale stuck in ice or some sleeping seal. The gorilla is moving fast and thinking fast and using weapons to make up for its lack of strength.

So the gorilla is smaller but it’s way smarter (it has the ability to reason) and would therefore out-maneuver a bear. It’s highly intelligent (try to teach sign language to a bear…lol), it has a bigger brain than a bear, it has more agility and speed, it can use both its hands and legs with opposable thumbs and most of all it can use tools, weapons and throw things like a big heavy handy rock. A gorilla has a lot of strength in its arms (the length of its arms are longer than the length of its body...) so it could just rip off the bear’s arms or tear apart its jaws. And also, let’s not forget that the gorilla can laugh so it has a sense of humor…which is always an asset in any fight...

The gorilla, being a member of the hominidae family, prone to anger and violence, like humans, will throw a huge rock at the bear who will die of internal cranial bleeding. Or the gorilla will get its hands on a gun and just figure out how it works and just shoot the bear, however big it is.

My money in on the gorilla, because we’re family…
