My doctor put me on birth control and i am only 14. it is not becuase i am going to get pregnate until i am married. it becuase i have HORRIBLE acne, and the doctor said that my hormones are all waked up. and birth control will line it all up.. i have been on it for about 7 weeks, and i have notice kind of a change, like my face is softer, and they are really hard under my skin, but they arent completely gone so they are thinking about putting me on a stronger dose.... do you think that birth control really works, and do you think if i get a stronger dose will it make it go completely away, and will it make me gain weight?

Some birth control works better to control acne than others, but I'm sure your doctor know's what he/she is doing. : )
It works wonders on some people. For some, though, hormones are not the main problem, and you need to try something else. There is no reason for the birth control to make you gain weight. You may experience other side effects though (like breast tenderness).

You will still have to keep your skin clean. Don't stop using whatever cleanser and topical medicines you were already using, unless your doctor tells you to.

Birth Control helped my acne a little bit, but not enough. After dealing with acne for eight years (since fifth grade). I finally started accutaine, and it's going great!

Good luck! I hope the bc works for you, but if not, remember, there are always other options! Something will work.

I went through the same thing at 13 - my Dr started me on the 'Mini-Pill' (a smaller dosage contraceptive) then after a month put me on a much stronger dose. It really did help my skin, but it took about 2 months to work well enough that I was happy with the result. I also had a strict skincare routine with a product my local chemist recommended. I put on a little weight (about 2 kilos) when I first started on the Pill but after about 2 months everything started to smooth out and I was back to my normal weight. Someone your age shouldn't suffer too much weight gain as your metabolism is moving quickly because your body is growing so fast. Anyway, give it a go, and if it doesn't work you can try something else.

There are studies that have shown that birth control can help with the treatment of acne, but it could be from other causes other than hormones. I would consult with a Dermatologist to try something else if you do not feel comfortable using the BCP.

I would recommend seeing a dermatologist. I had bad acne too, so they put me on a special antibiotic, told me to use Cetaphil brand face wash and use Retin-A at night, then put on Aveeno in the morning. It worked pretty well for me. I no longer use the Retin-A because it dries out my skin in the winter. I'm 18 and I still get acne from time to time.

It should help and no it won't necessarily make you gain weight. I lost 30 lbs on the pill. In general the stronger the dose, the more likely it is to affect your weight - gain OR lose!
