I didn't like "The Time Machine" (2003) that much, but I did like the environment and technology at the beginning of the movie. I was wondering if there were other movies that had the same feel.

Time After Time (1979)
Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenbergen turn in some very good performances in the time travel sci fi that starts at the turn of the century. HG Wells finds out too late that one of his friends is actually Jack the Ripper...and is forced to chase him into the future to bring his crime spree to an end. Brilliant movie. David Warner stars as Springheel Jack. Good stuff.

The City Under the Sea (1965)
Set on the Cornish coast in 1903, the film features a group of people discovering an underwater society of smugglers who never age living in a lost underwater city along with their gill-man slaves. Vincent Price stars.

Master of the World (1961)
The world in the late 19th century: A scientist and his team are held as "guests" of Robur on his airship, that he want to use to ensure peace on earth. Peace with all, even if he has to bombard military targets all over the world. Can the scientist stop him ? Vincent Price again stars as Robur.

I think there are a number of movies made from Jules Verne's stories. Some of these are :

20,000 Leagues Under The Sea
Mysterious Island
Master Of The World
(Captain Nemo Is High-Tech Guy)
Journey To The Center Of The EarthAround The World In 80-Days

Also, I think First Men On The Moon was in the specified time period you mentioned. That's from an H.G. Wells story. The movie was really good from what I remember.

Lastly, while Edgar Rice Burroughs is famous for his Tarzan books and movies were made from them, he also had a series called the Barsoom Series which hasn't been set in film as to date.

Barsoom what the natives call what we know of as Mars. I believe the main character, John Carter, was gravely wounded in a Civil War battle, awaiting his death alone in a cave. Next thing he knows he's been healed and somehow transported to Mars.

The next 16+ books are of his adventures on Barsoom, fighting at the head of the Red People Of Mars, against the Reptilian Green People, and all other enemies of his adopted peoples. The language (English) is turn-of-the-century, I assume, and can be a little difficult insofar as certain word usages/meanings, but if you enjoy sci-fi, it's well worth the read. (Just wait 'til you meet Deja Thoris)

well there is West World with Yule Brenner. Kinda sci fi as dar as his character is really a robot, but it isn't really based in that time period, it is just a theme park type thing that is designed in that era.

the orginal version of the same film is the only one set in that time period that I know of, and is because it was writting in the late 1800's. There are some movies that go and visit that time, but not set there.
