I never completely shut down my computer because it takes forever to boot back up. When I am not using it I put it in stand by. Is this bad for the computer?

it has its pros and cons however generally you will save more power and have less problems if you are starting/shutting down

standy
Will shorten life of PC. All items on PC have a expected life.
Uses power albeit less than when on full power
will increase dust problems inside as fans always running

Start/stop
Will also shorten pc life as most stress on components can be in start up stage
Takes longer to get started

If you have a broadband connection, leaving you computer on standby can leave your pc more open to viruses. Shutting it down once in awhile is a good idea for alot of reasons

It will definitely consume battery life if you are using a laptop, however if you are putting a desktop on standby, you should be fine. I have left my computers on "standby" for lengthy amounts of time and have experienced no problems.

As long as it is on standby mode, i think it will be fine for the computer.
However, electricity and energy will be wasted....

Standby uses some battery power, so your battery will go dead if you leave it too long like that
