I could ask the same about rap music, I suppose.
Rock is the anthem of youth, rebellion & independence. There is more to it than "screaming." It is an amazing and vast part of music history & without it many forms of music would not exist. Rock ranges from rockabilly, "oldies," punk, grunge, goth, nu-metal, indie, etc.
I honestly don't see how anyone who truly appreciates music cannot appreciate rock. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Buddy Holly, Nirvana all changed the musical landscape and gave generations music to celebrate & evoke independence from the more conservative mainstream.
I suppose you are speaking about nu-metal what with "all the screaming." There is so much more to it than that. Nu-metal is often a venue to vent ones frustrations or emotions--sadness, isolation, anger, love & even joy.
You are certainly welcome to your own opinions, but perhaps you might consider taking a History of Rock or music class. You might find it informative & you never know, maybe you will find the right rock for you.

Because rock and roll allows me to remember that there's other people out there who think. Most rock and roll is screaming and stupid lyrics, that's true. But the same generalization can be made about rap and hip hop music. I would say any "poetry" about bling bling and biatches would fall squarely under the definition of "stupid lyrics."

The same could asked about you and rap. It's nothing but talentless people complaining about crap they got themselves into and is void of any substance or meaning. But, to anwer your question, I like rock because it reflects what I fell about things in my own life and in the world. I also like the way it is composed. Most of the chords used in rock are minor instead of major. Anything that uses minor chords for their dominant effect is better. In my opinion. But, I don't like the hardcore rock where it's nothing but screaming so that you can't understand the lyrics. And, in hardcore they use so much distortion that one cannot hear the actual notes. All that can be heard is distortion.

But wait, with most rock music, people actually sing. With rap, you have someone rhyming along to one repetitive beat. How can you say that rap has better lyrics? You must not be paying enough attention to either genre. See, with rock music, you have real musicians who take the time to learn how to play real instruments and things like time signatures and harmony.

I listen to some rap but I just stopped because time and time again they were rapping about the same stuff and it gets redundant I mean the words dont change the beat does. But I listen to rock music because usually behind the words their is a deeper meaning and when you understand what the song is saying you can relate to it because you may feel the same way. I mean, I know there is this one song by the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus its called Face Down and it just sent chills up my spine because I could really relate to it. The song talked/screamed about domestic abuse and it was incredible.

Not to be insultive, but I genuinely dislike rap for the reasons you've stated that make you dislike Rock.
I don't think 70% of the rappers out there have gone through what they preach about, don't know what its like to live in "The Hood", and there's nothing pleasing about the beats. With rock, tempos change, guitar riffs change, bass volumes change... with rap, it's mostly the same beat over and over and over.

Unlike rap, rock has melody. Unlike country, rock has big guitars and drums. Unlike jazz, rock has lyrics with power.
Rock and roll, since Alan Freed coined the phrase in 1952, is the true language of our day.

I like rock and I like rap, when I listen to music, I listen to what expresses the emotional state that I am in at that time. This also depends on the individual song.

I listen to Alternative rock... I got my boy friend [who is a rap fanatic] to listen to it. I love rap. You can't talk about on genre of music just because you don't like it. Rock is just as good as rap.
