My dad is half black, though very light skinned, kinda like Derek Jeter. My mom is full black (Nigerian), kind of like a Naomi Campbell. I am white, brown hair, have no black features whatsoever. People think I'm lying when I tell them I'm 3/4 black. How often does this happen, are there are lot of multiracial people who look like just one race (in my case, I don't look like either of my parents, but my grandpa).

I think, considering I'm 3/4, I should be able to identify as black if I want to (I don't usually identify myself as anything though). Barack Obama is only half black, yet he is widely considered a black man. What are your opinions?

You are what you are. We're all human anyhow and we all bleed red.

I'm from New Orleans and I've seen literally thousands of mixedblood people, since the vast majority of people in that city are mixedblood. There's usually an African trait or two, the shape of the nose or the texture of the hair, that shows their heritage, and these traits are most likely genetically dominant. So a person who shows any African traits whatsoever is considered "black" and accepted as such by the black community.

But then again, if someone is mixed blood and looks white and walking around in a place like New Orleans where there are many mixedblood people who do show the African phenotype, how would a casual observer such as myself know that they were mixedblood, unless we got into a conversation about heritage and the person said so?

On the other hand, there are peoples in Africa who have the sharp features not normally associated with the African phenotypes. Certain tribes in Ethopia come to mind. Perhaps your mother is from such a group?

A person's identity is a very serious matter at any rate, and can be a painful matter if their outer appearance doesn't match their inner identity. You are what you are. No matter what other people say, only you have the final authority on the question.

Well it all has to do with genetics. I don't know anyone personally that this has happened to. But look at celebs like Cameron Diaz, she looks white but her father is Hispanic and her mother is half native American and Halle Berry looks Black but her mother is white. It really depends on genetics. Also Barack Obama is considered Black because he looks Black. He also has said he considers himself Black. Really it's up to you how you want to identify yourself but these days you'll have a hard time doing that because people will accuse you of denying part of your heritage.

Basically it because genes are not passed in fractions like 3/4 as you say. Genes are passed through what they call traits and genomes. Obviously you have been passed traits from someone in the white side of your family. You could very well be like just like your white grand daddy. Another thing is that the Hamites who are of a white racial stock started invading Africa over 5000 years ago, so your parents from Africa coulod have already been part white. Education will set you free.

fit genes? i don't think of a breed person is from now on certainly healthful than a white, black or asian person. the reason i think of maximum breed each and every physique is in many situations seen greater effective looking than different races is the exterior tone. not too dark like some black each and every physique is, not too diminished like some white each and every physique is. A golden/caramel pores and skin tone is like strolling around with a organic, appropriate tan. of path it is going to lead them to seem greater effective.
