Is it because their sensitive little feelings get hurt?

Should we also ban cheering, so the other team doesn't feel left out when they don't get as many cheers?

is someone below comparing a high school event to a "little kiddie game"? Do they not understand that people won't boo at a kiddy game becuase it is morally wrong, not because its a 'rule'?

As a former Basketball referee, I don't think that booing should be banned explicitly, but there definitely should be rules about fan behavoir. Things get out of hand, fist fights get started and referees/coaches get verbally assaulted during and after games all the time. While some may think that this is just 'part of the job', it should be noted that the people booing often don't have a clue about the actual rules of the game (this is especially true for high school level sports). Taunting throws off the players and the officials, and promotes violence and conflict in the stands.

On the sensitivity issue, many people think that taking some hits is part of playing the game. However, when you've got 40-year old parents in the stands calling a 9th grader a 'pansy' or accusing him of 'playing like a girl' or telling him that he's a moron... I have to question whether or not it deters kids from playing recreational sports all together. Parents get in the stands, and they forget that they are role models. Many parents are hard on kids because they go to these games so that they can live vicariously through their children, which in my opinion is wrong.

On a final note, I've been in many positions where I am reffing by the stands and some parent tries to tell me what I am doing wrong, and 'why didn't I call that' and that call I made 15 minutes ago was wrong... blah, blah, blah. If I could, I would stop the game, clearly explain why they are wrong and that they don't understand the rules, and ask them to kindly SHUT THEIR MOUTH.

It's because the feelings of the people being booed might get hurt. In my opinion, oh freaking darn. If it were me, I would use the anger developing from that as energy to play better. At the very least, they're big kids, they should have a little thicker skin than THAT!

You're completely right on the cheering point -- once they ban booing, where will it go from there? It'll get to the point of children's soccer matches, where no points are awarded just to keep everyone happy. What will be the point in the game then? Eventually there'll be an outright ban of all sports for precisely the same reason -- and the possibility that someone will get hurt. Cry me a river.

The libs want to ban booing because it may hurt somebodies feelings. They want to make us all the same. The problem is that we are not the same. The libs are trying to make everybody feel guilty for success and happiness. It is becoming more unacceptable for us to express our true feelings. Too much bottled up inside is bad for the mind, body and soul. This is why so many people are on anti-depressants.

For all the people wanting to know why a liberal is behind this... Only a Liberal would take away the freedom of speech.

For the LIBS:

Freedom of speech is the concept of the inherent human right to voice ones opinion publicly without fear of censorship or punishment. At sporting events we BOO.... Get over it.

You know what I find interesting about this?

The libs want to ban booing from sporting events, yet they will NOT hesitate to shout a Republican off stage at a news conference or during a speech.

LIBERAL=HYPOCRITE!!

If people get unruly at a sporting event, have them hauled off by the cops. Or SWAT. Problem solved. This is a waste of time and resources.

I have the solution: Instead of liberals banning booing, how about banning LIBERALS from sporting events?

That way, nobody's feelings get hurt or no diapers get oversoaked, and people can boo and enjoy themselves

You cited the article; did you read it?? It didn't say anything about the person who wants to "ban Booing" being a Liberal. What would even have given you that idea?

Oh! I know! You don't like Liberals and you don't like the idea of booing being banned, therefore it must be an idea brought to us by Liberals???? Sorry, your bias just overtook your brain on that one!

Hmmm - a quick google pulled this up;

And, after one Seattle newspaper reported over the weekend that it was considering a new "boo ban," the organization found itself enmeshed in controversy and flooded with phone calls over the concept.

The problem, said the group's executive director, is that the report was untrue.

"There is no boo ban; there won't be a boo ban," said Mike Colbrese, executive director of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Assn. "That's just silly."

And where in the world did you get the idea this has anything to do with liberals?

Booing the other team isn't that bad. There are many other forms of taunting that most high school crowds are in to. My advice: if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Seattle is where they took christmas trees down in the airport, because they didnt have time to put up "a 9 foot menorah"

they are also trying to ban the easter bunny. Why?

Can you beleive you live in a country that is doing these things???

America is going down the tubes fast...

This is weird, I agree with you, a Boo ban is nonsense..

Moltar:
on the taunting rule in the NFL , aren't you tired of seeing the defensive ends do that stupid dance EVERY time they get a sack?

I mean act like it's not your first time already

I was at a softball game many years ago, and the parents called the police because we were booing. This was 10 years ago. True story.
