Moving can definitely be scary but you are pretty lucky to be approved for section 8 and be assured that most section 8 apartments or houses are pretty decent because they have to meet certain criteria. Also, you will likely save a lot of money.
Good luck to you!

you have to consider, why do you have this fear? it is very hard to get a section 8 housing unit. count yourself one of the lucky few, because for the most part, due to governmental standards, your apartment will most likely be far, far nicer than others in the neighborhood! most section 8s are scattered, not housing piled up one floor of poverty stricken people one floor after another, because that just does not work. how can children that see nothing but poverty and all of the evils attached to it grow up to get a good job to get themselves out of that cycle? that's why section 8 housing is usually in a wide variety of neighborhoods.

you first must go out and look at what's around. when you drive past the buildings, look at the density of cars parked on the street. are there many, many large apartment buildings around the one that is designated for you? if so, go on to the next address. the less density there is, the better. there is less crime in lower density neighborhoods where owners live in their own houses or two flats. there is also a lot of pride of ownership, so count on flowers growing as you walk down the street if in a highly residential, not super-apartment-buildings, area. also, look in alleys for signs of gangs.

anywhere you look, go around the hood to see where the stores are and other things that you might need. look at the school yards. does it seem that nicer children are there, or are they all the toughs that make so much trouble?

if you can possibly avoid it, try to take an apartment where there are not a lot of large families that have TEENAGERS. they will grow out of their craziness, but when they are teens, oftentimes their FRIENDS, not they, are very destructive to the building as a whole.

that is why the government pays so very much money in rent to the landlords providing section 8 housing. it is to compensate them for the hundreds of repairs that they are making all the time, damages done to common areas, thievery of the money in the wash machine coin bins, you name it.

conquer fear. once you conquer this fear, you will automatically conquer other silly fears. take this opportunity you finally got and fly with it.

good luck to you. i hope you can, this way, save enough money for a down payment on a house of your own!
