After defeating Jake "the Snake" Roberts, "Stone Cold" ad libbed the following line:

"You sit there and you thump your Bible, and you say your prayers, and it didn't get you anywhere! Talk about your Psalms, talk about John 3:16 ... Austin 3:16 says I just whipped your ***!"

At King of the Ring in like '96 or '97, Jake the Snake won, and this preacher was talking to him. Stone Cold came out and said "You can preach John 3:16, but Austin 3:16 says I just kicked your ***."

Well around '96 after austin won the king of the ring he was making fun of the saying in the bible (John 3:16 and things like that) and he told jake roberts that Austin 3:16 just kicked his ***. And since he said that the wwe kept that as a trademark austin logo.

It was based on a promo he did in 1996 at the King of The Ring after defeating Jake The Snake Roberts who at the time was portraying a born again Christian and always quoted bible verses. In the promo he said "You can talk about your John 3:16...Austin 3:16 says I just whooped your ***". The phrase caught on and became a part of his character.

At the king of the ring in '96 he had just beat Jake "The Snake" Roberts, to win the tourney. At the time Roberts had a preacher gimmick going on, and used to quote scriptures and biblical references during his promos. After winning Austin cut a promo on Roberts saying that Roberts would talk about his luke 12 and John, 3:16 and it didn't get him anywhere, but Austin 3:16 says that I just whipped your a.s.s.

Everyone already answered this question correctly, so I will answer a totally unrelated question.

The intro for the A-Team is as follows:

"In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team."

It was something he came up with at the King of the Ring 1996, when he beat Jake the Snake. (Jake was religious)

Austin 3:16 just says I've just whipped your ***
