Debates about the use of school uniforms in public schools have received much attention in the last few years. Many educational stakeholders believe that uniforms may curb negative behaviors associated with student dress such as teasing, absenteeism, tardiness, gang-related activity, and school violence. One primary argument espoused by opponents is that uniforms interfere with students' right to choose their dress-a violation of students' First Amendment right to free speech.
Public and private schools in the United States have always had dress code polices with uniforms being generally the purview of private schools.
Debates about the use of school uniforms in public schools have received much attention in the last few years especially when former President Bill Clinton took a stand for uniforms in public schools and signed an executive order to send all U.S. school districts a manual on ways to encourage the use of uniforms

So yeah, they are in fact encouraged to have uniforms.

Yeah some public schools have uniforms... matter of fact the school i go to has uniform... the students have been trying to get rid of them wit petitions and striks but nothing worked, the principal even kicked some students out for being a "rebel" well.. the point is that since my school is right by mexicos border which is why a lot of my classmates cross the border everyday and on top we have these rich houses surrounding the schools.. thats why we have uniforms so we dont put someone down or hurt somebodys feeling, also gang colors, and all that equality stuff... :-P

For a variety of reasons (I believe quite good ones) I am very much against uniforms in public schools (and my children have all graduated from public schools). However that has nothing to do with your question. CAN they be issued? Unfortunately, they evidently can be if the school board so decides. Please bear this in mind, though: A lot of things are done in politics (especially local politics) that are neither constitutional or legal at some level. Being ABLE to do something doesn't mean it is either good or right or legal - it just means it was done by someone who wanted (for whatever reason) to do it.
Yes, they can be issued. Yes, it has been done. No, it probably shouldn't be.

Yes, I went to a public hs that had uniforms, and I know of many other public schools in NY that either have a uniform or a strict dress code.

the district that my son went to junior high in had uniform shirts. not given out but you were forced to buy their shirts for $15 each. A school can tell you that there is a uniform policy but a parent can sign a waiver so that the child doesn't have to wear them, at least that is the law in California. they cannot issue them i think because in most districts they could not afford to do it. even if you bought the cheap shirts at $5 each then you must give them to 600-1000 children it would be very expensive.

could I ask the place you're from? You talk very poorly of yank's and American youngsters/little ones, in this question and on your others. no longer all of us clothing like that, you do no longer could be rudely ignorant. some public colleges interior the U. S. do have uniforms, yet maximum do no longer. It facilitates scholars to have the liberty of expression and coach people who they're as a individual and what they like. different international locations experience that college is an ideal placing the place as interior the U. S., college is an informal placing.

I've always liked uniforms [when they're cute] so i say why not. it's got its pros and cons like that the cost would be too much, but then since everyone is the same there won't be as much judging around... you'd have to get some professional statistics. do well!
