"You needed me" was Anne Murray's only American number #1 Pop Single, winning her a Grammy in 1978. She also had 10 number 1 hits on the U.S. Country Charts, and was very popular in country music, winning 3 Grammys for "Best Country Vocal Performance - Female". Eight of her singles also went to #1 on the U.S. Adult Contemporary Charts.
Anne Murray has had an impressive singing career and recording history and was the first Canadian female solo singer to reach #1 in the United States, leading the way for other great Canadian singers like Celine Dion, Sarah McLachlan, and Shania Twain.

Murray was the first Canadian female solo singer to reach #1 on the US charts, and also the first to earn a gold record (for one of her signature tunes, 1970's "Snowbird").
Actually she had more than 1 No. 1 song,

"He Thinks I Still Care" #1 (US Country), from album Country (1974)
"Love Song" #1 (US Adult Contemporary), from album Love Song
"You Won't See Me" #1 (US Adult Contemporary), from album Love Song
"You Needed Me" #1 (US Pop), from album Let's Keep It That Way Country (1978)
"I Just Fall In Love Again" #1 (US Country & US Adult Contemporary), from album Knew Kind of Feeling Country (1979)
"Shadows In the Moonlight" #1 (US Country & US Adult Contemporary), from album Knew Kind of Feeling Country (1979)
"Broken Hearted Me"#1 (US Country & US Adult Contemporary), from album I'll Akways Love You (1979)
and many more
