How can I get a list of web pages that link to a specific web page?

I need a list of pages that link to a specific page inside a site, e.g. www.example.com/x/y/z -- not the top-level www.example.com. I tried Google's link: prefix, but that didn't work on the site I want to test.

Google always works! Maybe there aren't no links to that page or not indexed by Google, so they are useless.
