I had an OB appointment today and they did an internal exam. The appointment was7 hours ago, and now I am spotting some brownish blood. At my OB appointment my BP was high so they send me to hospital for fetal monitoring which was fine. My blood work showed elevated uric acid, a sign of early pregnancy induced hypertension but they just booked in an appointment for Monday (my due date) to re-do it as they said it wasn't cause for concern just yet. Anyways, should I be concerned about this brown spotting??

It is very common to have spotting after an internal exam. Sometimes they hit what is called the mucous plug (which generally breaks within 1-4 of giving birth) and it has blood in it, which is where you would see the spotting. I believed I was going into labor, after an internal exam showing I was only 2 cm, I began spotting, consulted my midwife, and was informed that that is 100% normal as the mucous plug may have been nicked durring the exam. Now this doesnt mean that your mucous plug has broken and you're going into labor soon, just that the plug was nicked and let a little blood out. Dont worry about a thing, rather, rejoice that your little one will be here very soon. Congrats and best of luck to you.

.if they did an internal exam they they should have told you that there might be spotting. Any time they do that there is a chance of slight spotting which is normal.

Call labor and delivery or go in. If your worried go in to be checked they cant send you away for that.

I had signs of Hypertension at the end of my pregnancy also. High BP and baby heart rate was at the lowest safe point it can get for them.

I don't really think so. You said they did an internal exam and this can cause light spotting, especially as you progress in your pregnancy. If your cervix is softening or even starting to dialate then this is even more common. I read this in "what to expect while expecting". I would however, call you doc first thing in the morning and let them know what is going on. Good luck and I hope your little one is here very soon.

You are basically at term. You weren't spotting when you got your consultation. You should let your doctor know about that change which may mean nothing but there at a couple things in third trimester bleeding that would need attention—namely abruptio placenta and placenta previa which is some small portion of the placenta pulling away from the uterine wall or a portion of the placenta finding itself placed over the utero-cervical opening. Give your doctor a call.

Everyone's right. Don't worry unless you have to. You are EXTREMELY close to having this beautiful baby and the spotting must be from the exam since you're body's getting ready. Lots of things are happening inside you, so just worry about what you're going to name him/her! Good Luck and blessings on the beginning of you're new life! Happy Mother's Day!

I don't think so... bright red blood (fresh blood) is what you need to be careful of. I spotted too with one of my pregnancies after exams. Maybe your mucus plug fell out and your ready to go into labor. PLEASE call your Dr. to make sure. You might want to call labor and delivery at the hospital you are giving birth in.

it is possible that if they did an exam that it may have caused you to go into labor, i did this exact thing w/ one of my children. you will not know that you are in labor though, it does not hurt. but when some women start to dialate you wil begin to bleed, very common, it's not a big deal, it may even mean it is time for you to have that baby!

You should ask your doctor, but my experience was that each time I had a vaginal exam while pregnant, I ended up spotting.

call your dr asap. it could just be from the exam. when you are so close to your due date and you get a pelvic exam like that, sometimes it can trigger labor to start.

good luck and congrats!
