I have a number of cochins and so far i have never had this problem, i purchased what waas supose to be a pair of black cochins tonight and it was a plain black hen not a cochin and a rooster with a bad case of leg mites, first i need to know will this put my other cochins in danger of geting the mites , and 2 is there any way to cure the mite problem, i need to know what i should do with the roster.

Try 5% Sevin dust (rose dust), carberyl 5%, it is the main ingredient of flea powder and works well on mites, fleas and many other insect type pests. Dust the bird and all those that have come in contact with it (keep in mind that mites are mobile and can walk), dust all areas and make sure the birds have the dust ALL the way to the skin.

I have used the 5% on hamsters, gerbils, ferrets, poultry, dogs, cats, opossums, raccoons and many other forms of wildlife.. I try to keep it out of the eyes and mouth when using and have had no ill effects from use.

Yes, mites are very spreadable. Farm and Fleet has a great mite powder that just needs to be sprinkled over the livestock. It has worked great on my show chickens.
