I work for a franchise of an international company. (Kind of like a fast food restaurant.) I am the assistant manager, and my "district manager" (if you will) wants to send me to a different store. The problem is, it is further from my house, and I moved to this house to be closer to work. He hired me specifically for the store I am at. I knew that I may need to go to the other store to help out on occassion... but now he is talking permantly. Can he legally tell me it's either transfer or my job? If not, where can I find information on the matter?

Most places when filling out applications will tell you especially in management positions that tranfers may be required. I would contact your HR dept to gather the information but really as far as I can tell they are doing nothing illegal.

Well, it is crappy if they do make you go or get sacked. But, they can unless there was a contract not to. I quit a job because the butthead management thought nothing of transferring asst. mgrs all over hell's half acre in a city that can take 1.5 to 2 hours to drive from end to end, in horrendous commuter traffic. They also did not pay worth a damn or subsidize any of the commute costs.

When you initially took the job and signed your paper work, there would have been a clause that states you may be transferred or asked to move, as an employee of that company. Check into that. If you signed it, I guess you are out of luck.
