The first video game ever made was OXO. We call it "X's and Zeroes". It was made by a scientist named A. S. Douglas. He developed the graphical version of the game way back in 1952, making it the first ever video game. Developed at Cambridge University to demonstrate a thesis on human -computer interaction. OXO was played on EDSAC, and used a CRT display

Later in 1958, William Higinbotham created a game called Tennis for Two.This game is widely accepted as the first video game. It used an oscilloscope as the display unit. It looked like the primitive pong. It showed a tennis court from the side and the ball was affected by gravity. The controllers of the game were bulky. The game was later dismantled in 1959.

The early games ran on university mainframes and was restricted to programmers and students who developed them.
Game design led to the development of several other softwares. The operating system UNIX was developed partly by
Ken Thompson, who wanted to play a game called space travel that he was developing.

The first console system was the Magnavox Odyssey released in 1972. It w3as built around analogue electronics. The console connected to a home TV ste, had over 300 different parts and used 12 different plastic overlays for the screen. It sold around a hundred thousand units.

The very first game to ever be played on a computer is Spacewar!, developed in 1962 at MIT. It was designed to run on a PDP-1 system(size of a large car). The graphics were primitive. The story is very simple. two players control a spaceship each, circling a planet. The players shoot at each other, turn their ships and accelerate. The goal is to hit the other player without getting it yourself. This game did not go commercial, and remained in the hamds of a limited few.
