My eldest cat Lennie "he is really a person with too much hair" is 17 years old, he's been with me longer than my husband and children... lol lol, I have to admit that despite my unconditional love for him, over the years he has been a total pain in the bottom, eg: in one year we spent over $2000 on vet bills due to his behaviour, he has been on every thing from Hormone replacement therapy to Valium tablets, for nearly 5 years he constantly ran away from home...we had bought a house about 500 meters away from our old home, on a daily basis he ran away back to our old house...crossing a main highway to do so, he ripped huge holes in all the fly screen windows, every one in the house, to enable him to abscond, he was never very affectionate to any one, ,Our first miracle came in the shape of our eldest daughter Courteny, she was born 7 years earlier, and we spent the next 6 years trying unsuccsessfully to concieve, then our 2nd miracle happened we finally did concieve our baby girl Kree, and Lennie knew before I did, he not only started sleeping with me everynight, he constantly followed me around the house, at night he would lie on my still flat tummy and lick it, march on it, and drift off to sleep keeping my belly warm, as my pregnant belly expanded he began to stetch his body across it, when Kree was born, we had to put a dinning chair next to her bassinet when we had her in the lounge room, as when ever she cried he would stick his head in the bassinet to make sure she was ok, most times he got to her before I did, Kree is 6 years old now and he sleeps with her each night, sits on her lap when watching TV, I know of many stories about cat's intuition, but in my heart I know that Lennie & Kree are soul mates, your cat is being protective and trying to show his love for you, I wish you all the best, congratulations, feel blessed to be loved unconditionly, take care, Yvette

Cats have great instincts and he knows that there is definitely something going on with you. I have 4 kitties two of which are lap cats and they stare at my belly, sniff it, lick it, and rest on it. My baby often kicks them and they perk up for a second and go right back to resting with her. I just figure they are cuddling lol. My other cat sleeps with me more than he use to and acts very protective. That amuses me too. My last one could care less but he is 22lbs and lazy so I didn't expect much.
So I would safely assume your cat is normal and is might be feeling slightly protective of you and your cargo.
Btw, the whole cat stealing the baby's breath, smothering it thing is just a wives tale. Cats can be attracted to the milk that babys drink, but it is very unlikely they will sleep on their face and smother them. So don't worry about that. We have purchased a crib tent though, to keep kitties out of the crib, since you shouldn't even have stuffed animals in there.

LOL!!! i would be unable to have self assurance you asked that. How genuine. I did stare at pregnant women persons's bellies each and all of the time when I had my son. To be hassle-free I stared in jealousy on the great, around, delicate bellies. i might sulk, my theory grew to become into "I under no circumstances have been given of challenge to have a abdomen like that. i did no longer get the possibility to ***** on the subject of the middle burn, back aches, sleepless nights, and swollen ft." I advise that is thoroughly stupid and in some tactics i'm specific many females persons might have traded with me reason I got down to my pre-being pregnant weight so speedy... LOL till I tell them I gave delivery at 6 months XD Congratulations on your 2nd infant! Any names yet?

I like to think that cats can pick up on energy fields and they know that something very creative and wonderful is happening in your belly !! and like a true cat they want some of that love!!! Its nicer to believe that they are feeling protective because cats are often intuitive but they are also frequently self oriented...

Some people say that animals can smell.detect hormones and I have heard MANY stories about cats being especially attracted to pregnant women. I don't really know the truth behind why, but I know it happens.

Maybe it can smell your pregnant. My wife thought I was crazy when I told her I could tell when she was pregnant, because I could smell it on her skin. I don't know, maybe women put off some kind of pheromone or something when their pregnant. I convinced her when I told her she was pregnant with our son. She laughed and took the test, then she believed.

lol. my cat does the same thing!! I thought maybe he was just a weirdo. lol.

Although there is no real scientific evidence that animals "know" when your pregnant. I think they do pick up on difference in your behavior, emotions, etc. and can sense a BIG change in you! :)

Congrats!

My kitties do that too! Both of them couldn't be bothered before I got pregnant and now they can't leave me alone.
