I GUESS EVERYONE HERE IS YOUNGER THAN ME, I REMEMBER GETTING THE PRINCIPALS STRAP ACROSS THE HANDS FOR GETTING IN CRAP, AND THEN GOT IT AT HOME ALSO, IT TOUGH ME AND ALOT OF OTHER KIDS ALSO, IF I NEEDED IT I GOT IT, AND IT WAS MY FAULT, MOST OF THE KIDS TODAY NEED A GOOD SMACK IN THE HEAD, MOST PARENTS 2 DAY WILL GO NUTS ABOUT IT, OR TRY TO SUE YOU, IF YOU DESERVE IT , YOU SHOULD GET IT, BUT DON'T BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF A KID, EVEN THOW THEY NEED IT!

Let me say this. These days, the sign of our times is NO, you cannot touch, harm, look at, say anything slightly offensive (even if you don't know what it is), or otherwise hurt the self-esteem of any child in school. I'm a teacher...thinking of quitting teaching after 5 years, because kids are so hypersensitive (with lack of basic manners), and parents are so permissive.

I have students from other countries. Students from Samoa get their knuckles rapped with a ruler if they step out of line, and then they get beat at home.

Let's see who has the better manners in class? The regular American kids that have grown up never knowing what a consequence is? Or the Samoan kids? You guessed it...the American kids have not a clue what it is like to treat their education and teachers with respect.

Do I think kids should be spanked? Maybe not. But I think the parents oughta be doing something a little stricter at home.

Did you see all the posts about "YOU BETTER NOT TOUCH MY KID!". There were only a couple that thought - you know what - it worked in the past - it worked on me.

Now you can't even look at a kid funny without the principal calling you into the office the next day.

It's just freakin ridiculous.

I am scared for our society in 20 - 40 years as this generation grows and has their own little babies.

YES i believe that they should and i believe that it should be used either place i'm not saying make them bleed i'm saying a good warm up on the seat never hurt any one

i have heard every thing from a song made me do it

the medicine i'm on made me do it

i didn't have enough attention thats why i did it

i have never once heard any news on tv or other wise with someone saying my parents warmed my seat up thats why i did it

children have no respect for teachers or anyone else these days and their parents too for that matter if they make the choice to act like a loon in school they should have a reality check
if you knew you were going to get a good warming up for talking back to a teacher would you?
makes you think a little more than having to sit in a desk for an hour and then times up no more trouble

a time out chair is for kids that are not in school yet
not for the ones that already knew better

I think if your smarter then a kid you shouldn't have to resort to any physical violence at any time. Don't let your angetr take over. I think spanking shouldn't be permitted ever. It can get out of hand, and parents just don't know how to control sometimes. If the kid is to rotten the parents have screwed up some where. Thats what i think about that.

At home. Some parents definitely need spanking.

Spanking should never be allowed in schools. Parents know their children best, and should they should be allowed to use the punishment that fits the child personality. Different children respond to different punishments.

No spanking at school.
Liability issues out the wazoo!
Kids with clinical behavior issues would essentially be physically abused daily if spanking were allowed.
Not okay.

reserved at home.

if spanking is allowed in schools, lawsuits would be popping up here and there.

child abuse? certain teachers can take it too far.
child emotional duress? certain children can have a fear of going to school and even having psychological problems in the future.

bottom line, if you're not the guardian of my kid, you better not lay a finger on him.

you can't deal out physical punishment at school, so no spanking, because it encourages violence to solve problems. Parents CAN hit their kids, but most choose not to at all, or only if the child was REALLY bad

Discipline of that caliber should be left up to the parents since it all starts at home
