windows vista makes my hp zd8000 laptop shut down regularly when plugged in but not when running on battery!?

My laptop keeps shutting down in the middle of tasks, but only when it is plugged in. I even bought a new adaptor but it is still doing it. It started when I installed vista. Help me Please!

Look at the power options somewhere on the control panel and check what you have there. Most probably your "AC" and your "battery" profiles are mixed up for some weird reason. And it is not hardware problem for sure.

you may need a new power cord.
